Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I'm game. I know diddly about breeds, but my guesses might be good for a laugh, at least.
Ok! Here are a few posts.

This post is a recent close up showing the pencilling on her new feathers coming in under her old ones.

This post shows the second egg she ever laid, which was the egg that confirmed she lays blue. Before that, I vaguely thought maybe someone had pranked me because from what I had been told of her breeding, I was not expecting her to lay blue.

This post shows her black face, golden necklace, and crest quite well.

This one shows her feathered feet.

And I think this is quite a good shot of her body shape.

Finally, here is a photo I took an hour ago.

I'm fairly sure she's part Australorp, part Silkie and part Araucana. Maybe also part Pekin. She lays blue eggs, has a crest, and feathered feet.
Since you're in Australia, Araucanas have crests and muff/beard.

If someone crossed an Australian Araucana with a not-bearded Silkie, and then interbred the offspring, they could easily end up with some hens that look like that.

I'm bad at body shapes, so I might be missing something there. But such a mix would account for the comb, crest, feathered feet, clean face, not-Silkie feathers, blue eggs, dark skin, and either 4 toes or 5 since I don't remember whether you mentioned how many she has.

For coloring, I think she's the usual kind of laced blue, with some gold leaking through in places. Her coloring looks a lot like the Blue Sexlink hens that have shown up in the US this past few years, like a Black Sexlink turned blue.

I think I am going to have to rig up a pen for the girls for a few days: just found a secret nest by the leaf mould heap with 9 eggs laid by (probably) 2 different hens, plus 2 girls are calling for an escort from neighbouring gardens, and other hens are nowhere to be found at the moment...and no-one's in the nest boxes! :thThis is the one downside to real free ranging.

and occasionally a sword (it's the kind of sword meant for fencing, with a long slender blade and no sharp edges.)
I think you would get more respect from them with a nice big cutlass ;)

Apologies, it's the second time I'm making a fool of myself with a wrong translation.
Hah! If most of us could speak/write any language other than English 1/10 as well as you do with English we would be multilingual!!!

Since I'm not sure if people outside France have the equivalent of this very french boot I will post this tax where you can zoom on his feet.
Look like standard work boots

Ok! Here are a few posts.
I know what she is! She's a hot mess!!!!! ;)

Black skin = Silkies or Ayam Cemanis. She doesn't have silkie feathering
Feathered feet - several options including cochin
Blue egg - Ameraucana/Araucana also Cream Legbars
Body shape looks like Aus Australorp

Chicken genetics are complicated!
