One of the nameless one billion battery chickens that die each year in the UK because of peoples demand for chicken eggs died this morning sometime after 6.30 am.
But, this hen wasn't nameless. She was called Lima.

Rest in peace Lima. I am glad she had some good chicken life before the end. All thanks to you Shad.

Four hours today. Warm and sunny and a sad day for me and the allotment chickens. Henry spent his time wandering around I assume looking for Lima although he saw her dead body. Fret went directly to the place under my chair where Lima spent her last hours lying on the grass under my chair and stayed there most of the afternoon. We are all going to miss Lima. She was so full of life the picture of her dead is one of the few where she is still enough to be in properly in focus.

Oh no! Poor girl. At least she got to live a much better life while she was in your care.

And gave us a chance to get to know her a little.

So sorry to hear about Lima. She was lucky to have such a wonderful caretaker to enjoy the end of her life.
