The Rainbow Runners project hit a slight hurdle. My Throw Back rooster Goober died of cancer a few days ago. I'll have to breed my first set of F1s needed for the project, plus hopefully produce another rooster just like Goober.

Mine has to be postponed for two weeks due to my friend getting Covid. :hmm

I'm sorry for your loss @MysteryChicken, it can be so hard. :hugs
That's unfortunate.

Yep, it can. I would've put him down that day, if I knew he was dying. He just acted very I'll, so I let him be. Came back from a friend's place to close the coop, & found him dead. I grabbed a few of his feathers to keep a part of him.

Thats sweet, it sounds like you loved him very much, he knew he was loved. He had a great life. RIP Goober.
I've done that with my chickens before.

It is unfortunate, if only she could have waited until we inseminated them before getting sick haha! Then at least they could be incubating right now. ;)

He was a favorite.

Very bad timing it sounds like.

Very interesting projects going on. I'm considering making an olive egger/blue egger breed with this cockerel with this type. I have his mother, two aunts, five sisters and four half sisters to work with. Eventually in the project I would work toward blue eggs only. His sisters are just starting to lay. Cockerel and 2 full sisters pictured. His mother looks almost identical to the pullets pictured. Requirements are muffs and clean legs, with tails being at or below horizontal. These are friendly with curious personalities.

Blue egg laying Cubalayas?

This was not a planned project. The hens hatched these out this year and liked them, so I thought to myself, those could be a very interesting project for someone. A bit later I thought, well, why not me? So this idea has been churning through my head quite a bit lately, I'll probably end up doing it as I really like projects. My spouse has marans and olive eggers so this would be somewhat of a natural project also.
