Wanted to work on silkied pheonixes and crested pheonixes,but had to cut that flock down and limit males. So it will wait until I move and have more space

I wanted to work on silkied long-tails (not silkied phoenixs) but never thought about crested long-tails. But my silkied long-tails will prob have crests anyway, so it will be two-in-one.

I'm starting a breeding project this week creating bantam EE's. Not to exciting, but a fun first breeding project! Gonna inseminate some Jubilee Orpingtons as well, and try to get some mini Orps as well. We'll see how it goes.

Is there a reason you want to breed them, instead of just buying some?
I can think of at least 4 major hatcheries that usually offer them for sale.

A friend of mine and I are doing it together with her flock. We have the birds and the time, and honestly it never really occurred to me to buy them. Sounded like a fun experience and opportunity to do it ourselves. Plus, we want to see if we can get some bantam Jubilee Orpington as well, so we figured we'd do them both.
I don't like to purchase shipped chicks either, so thats another reason.

Buying them would probably be cheaper than feeding project birds through several generations.

But if it's not as much fun, or if requires doing something you don't like (buying shipped chicks), then "cheap" does not look like a good deal after all

I would consider it a breeding project too.

When you cull birds, you are choosing which ones remain to breed.
And when you choose certain eggs to put in your incubator, you are selecting for some traits there too.
