She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I think I would be looking for sticky chick before you start put the light on it .look at the inner membrane to see how drawn down it is give it a little more time. what's the humidity been for incubation and what is it now and somebody is a nurse so scrub up. a couple of pictures haven't posted any for a while

Those are some nice, healthy looking chicks you have there. So cute!

I ain't scared of none of Ya. I'm horrible at guessing polish, but usually the ones with the crests further down the back are boys, but I have been wrong selling them that way. I'm not certain until the wattles start developing around 8-10 weeks
Ah man!! Are you kidding me? Maybe I should be glad that you are usually wrong! Lol

I just left TSC, and just had to share the conversation with the sales girl. She overheard me talking with another guy about Ameraucanas. She said "we had those this year"

Then she said "We also had some of those that laid almost black eggs"
I said "Black copper marans"
"No"
"Welsummers?"
"No, it started with an A... Australorp! That was it!"

There you go smacking total strangers again. do Australorps lay dark eggs .I wasn't looking for dark egg layers when I found the marans I liked the way the chicken looked so had to have some. every time I say I want or I'm going or I'm thinking my wife gets nervous because most of the time I do.

The membrane is looking dry and it has been about 24 hours since the breach pip.

Good luck! I think if/when we hatch marans eggs I will be full on red team.
Thanks Amy I have just turned on my cooler bator to heat up so I will use that for the assist on when it gets up to temp. So I don't have to disturb the others.

Our power just went out. lol Just for a few minutes. I was sweating the whole time and not from the heat! The cats and dogs are coming down here. There goes working. . .

Ok I zipped the shell, moistened the membrane then moved a bit of membrane and started to bleed. I have stopped, placed it in a warm moist towel and put in coolerbator.

Hoping that I haven't just killed it.

Looks good to me, but I don't know anything.

I think you're doing well. Anytime I'm assisting and get a bit of blood I hold my wet q-tip on the spot for a minute and then put it back and wait.

Well, NY found it's summer. I'm ready for rain...lol Humidity is only 64%, but it feels so hot out there. I made two veggie ice blocks-well- they are in the freezer becoming ice blocks...lol so the birds can have a treat tomorrow since it's supposed to be about the same or a tad hotter.
Man is it hot today! I sat with the chickens for a few mins and my two oldest ones jumped on my lap and I could feel the heat coming off their feet through my jeans!! I froze veggie ice blocks today too!!! I wanted to ask you, how do you give them to the chickens? Just put them on the ground?
yes you deworm chickens according to our state lab that was why I was losing young pullets last year. when I say young I mean close to laying age. what you use is up to you some people use food grade D.E. I use Wazine and Ivermectin It's best to know what kind of worms your chickens have and treat for those .that requires stool sample and a vet to check it. and of course a vet bill.:(
Ok, thank you. I don't mind getting a vet to do a fecal test on one or two of them. That should give me an overall consensus. The oldest chickens are 9 wks. And they've only been on soil for a week or 2. So do you think I can wait till the spring to de-worm them?

This is exactly what I did (used a spare bator). And it lets the chick stay undisturbed after the assist so they can gain their strength.
