She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

My first broody experience in about 45 years:  I gave 8 eggs to a Dominique.  She ate one clear, one was yolk covered, so I washed it (I think that doomed it b/c it was moving prior to that) That egg died, she successfully hatched 6.  I think the follow up question here is:  How many eggs can a good broody hatch?  The qualifier would be that the eggs would be similar in size to those that she would lay.  SC:  don't you have at least 85% in your Brinsea???

A broody can hatch as many eggs as will fit under her without showing.
This will vary from hen to hen as not all hens are the same size. Some good Broodies can hatch a few more so they a couple show, but it's much harder for them and they usually loose a few with that many.

Ok, Friday, I'll be myself. Wonder where ross has been all day? I bet I know!

I have a question I have an EE she is a little over a year old and has yet to lay a egg . the question is what will make a chicken unable to lay. I read that a Cornish cross if hatched late in year would not lay . so should I eat this chicken .even though she's the only pet of the bunch or give her more time . might have to scratch that wife and daughter say not no but with great emphasis no .so I'm stuck with this chicken.

You are definitely sure she has never laid one?

How was your daughters first day back at school?

Oh...her first day was last Thursday but it went well. She loves it. I love it too!!!! ;) Although my 3 year old gave me a run for my money today. Lol!!! Have yours started already??? I. Sorry if you have already told me...I have a terrible short term memory.

Hello All…..Just did my 10 Day Candling….Out of the 18 eggs still in the incubator, 15 are viable and 3 seem to be non-fertile. (10 Buff Orpington and 8 High Noon x Leiper).

I did notice in some that the air cells seem a bit small and some others seemed more than ample. How does the correlation work with Humidity and the size of the air cell? The higher the humidity, the bigger the air cell develops? or just the opposite? All are welcomed to clarify for this rookie. Thanks

pretty sure she 's in a cage alone and have never found shell fragments .started thinking she might be a roo but no chance of that all my year old roos have big spurs. she's a black splash and supper sweet. I let her out and she follows me around or just sits in the shade .don't know what I'm going to do with her.
