Ok, guys, maybe too many pics, but anyone with critiques, feel free to have at it. This is my first time with Ams, but I think I'm off to a pretty good start:
Splash hen
Splash cockerel. Here you can see the purple sheen molting to green in the blacks
Blue cockerel with a black beside him. Tight combs
Comb from the side. This is the biggest boy, but his beard is looking a little haggard, and he is the one still showing a lot of purple
Gee, sorry for all the pics![]()
that's great news!! I don't know if I killed my eggs by letting them rest on the counter for 48 hrs or what. But I've only got 6 out of 18, looking good!!![]()

Walnut, I meant to quote you yesterday but time got away from me. Your poults reminded me so much of my baby peas! I saw that pic of the two that hatched in the 20. They are beautiful. After seeing that pic, I went to go visit the peas. I was wondering if they would remember me, I haven't seen them in 2 weeks. They are huge now!! And doing great! They came right up to me and sat on my leg and let me rub them. Guess they remember their mama!!![]()
OOOOOHHHH!!!! I forgot, today is supposed to be wine delivery day! I ordered from a wholesaler in California. Time to add to the cellar!
I'm back from the deep woods this is just a little pay
for Walnut wish you all had been there to help eat all these. slow cooked over fresh hickory with just a little Crown to help get us through the night. My brother and I camp out at our family cemetery in Ark every Labor day and do this for our Family reunion / cleaning
.. some folks might think it a little strange but we know most of the dead folks there . Neighbors and old child hood friends stop by to eat . the little cemetery is all that's left of a two section spread . long sold by a large southern family. Our ancestors fought in the revolutionary war . this one fought in the war civil war . you can see which side .no offense intended by this picture none of us knew who put the flag there . we left it .![]()

Mine is the same design. I bought a 5' length of pipe, then had to cut 6"-7" off the end so I had room under the wire roof of the run to manipulate the feed scoop...mine's sitting on a brick to keep it up off the ground a bit. I'm 5'8", & can reach the top with the scoop with no problem. You could buy a full length & cut it in half to make two feeders, which is what I should have done, even though I only needed one for chickens...they make great deer feeders, too.those are giant teddy bear size I think when your that big you have along reach .

They came from Florida! This was the second batch from this specific breeder that I am trying to hatch. The first batch was lost in the post for a couple days, and then a power outage on day 18...none hatched. I thought I would try again and have them shipped express. All air cells were extremely loose some detached totally. So I thought I should let them rest longer. It did get up to 80 in the house in the afternoon, though. Some of the air cells did firm up but I have dark red rings of death on a few and then most of them have a little black floating dot with a red circle around it and no vessels! The yolks look scrambled. So I don't know. Bad luck, I guess. I've re-calibrated the incubators. They are both spot on! I'm going to try some eggs next week from Pennsylvania, from a BYC member. Another member told me she packs great!48 hrs on the counter should not kill them unless it was 105 degrees in your house. Where did they come from? We are in this together!![]()
Sounds great! And those steaks look delicious!! Enjoy yourself...you deserve it!I'm back from the deep woods this is just a little pay

I tried quoting yesterday but my post got eaten and I gave up. The chicks are adorable! I'm so happy for you!! Great job!! Yes, only 6! I'm more determined then ever now. I'm getting more eggs next week from a BYC member! They are a 6 hour drive away, so hopefully the post isn't too rough. I spoke to another member that bought eggs from this breeder and she said not 1 detached air cell, so...Ruby! 6?![]()
Been meaning to ask about the peas... that's sweet!
Me, too. I was given a tripod Moultrie feeder for Christmas one year, with the timer; works great. I still have my PVC feeder, but haven't used it much since I got the big 'un.That's what we always used for deer feeders.... until we found the ones with timers!![]()
I was thinking about a 60 watt bulb in a cinder block placed on it's side. Then place the waterer on the block. Anyone tried this? All this about feeders is great info! But now I'm working on winter-weather-water solutions!
Background for my area: 0-30F normal in the winter here, but days usually get above freezing. Usually. We do have occasions when we get dumped on by a couple feet of snow at a time, but it usually doesn't stick around very long.
So now that I have (hubby made me count last night) 46 chickens/ducks/turkey... I need some anti-freeze solutions. I used one waterer with a heated base last year, but I only had 2 roosters then!!![]()
So if anyone wants to share their winter water ideas, I would greatly appreciate it!
PVC makes great feeder there is another style some where on the DIY thread that uses a 90 in a box that I saw . looked like it would work well too . I'm still using hangers from TSC . I would lube the treads on the cap with something they tend to stick . everything here is still being built and in planning stage . what I want is total outside everything . my first coop is all in side . water feed egg collection Its a pain when It gets muddy .the others will be all outside egg collection already is .Mine is the same design.
