She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

OMG, I know exactly what you are talking about:barnie They must be related, lol.  Gotta love 'em though.  There's not a thing in this world my DH wouldn't do for me... well, except communicate, lmao.
Exactly, lol, no communication here either, I think you're hubby is the long lost brother of mine, lmao ;)

My black mollies were prone to tumors.

I think the issue is that he's older than the girls.  Not a good situation, and in a flock with more than one cockrel, can lead to gang raping.  This is when it's beneficial to have a few mature biddies to flog some manners into that delinquent.  Can you put him in rooster jail until the girls are at POL?

x2

Not only is he a month older, but males become sexually mature before females anyways... females will only submit once they're ready, and may not still if he hasn't earned/learned his place... also the males seem to totally lose their minds when hormones kick in, both cockerels and drakes do it... :/
If you don't have some older hens to keep him with until he learns proper behavior, if at all possible at least isolate him until the hormone surge calms down... he can and might seriously hurt young pullets...
I always raise mine with my older girls or they live in a bachelor pad... but do not let him get away with treating them like that... he needs to learn that isn't acceptable...

He is almost 22 weeks along with 1 pullet. The rest are 5 or 6 girls and 1 or 2 boys (still not 100% sure on the sex, they are silkies) that are almost 18 weeks. So they should be catching up to him soon. He doesn't try to mate them but keeps biting the back of their necks. I wish I had an older hen to put him in his place! I will definitely consider isolating him if he goes any further or it seems like he's stressing them out. Thanks for the input!

Yeah, that's why I haven't bid on any of them, I don't trust very many egg sellers on ebay. I got some Welsummer eggs from eBay but since they aren't rare and I only paid $12 after shipping I wasn't really worried about whether they were purebred or not, lol. But the AC's, I love those, that has got to be the coolest bird ever, lol, and yours are soooo beautiful, I saw some pics on another thread. I'm hoping 1 day I can get a dozen eggs or so but it'll be a while before I can convince my husband to spend that much on eggs, lol. I would spend it in a heartbeat but he's a little harder to convince ;)

Thanks!

Did you bring AC eggs to chicken stock? I'd love to see a couple pics if you have time to post them here. I'm on the mobile app, so I don't know how to go and find them, otherwise I would...I'll still try.

I did! A half dozen presold to Purpletie. I also had a couple presold cull chicks for people to have as yard candy.

As of today, I have three AC eggs :weee I'll wait a day or two more and then set all I have.

Some pictures of my stock for you :)

I was on the NY thread for a little bit. You guys are a close knit group and I couldn't keep up! Then I found home base here, when this thread started. But I remembered someone (you :) ) posting about bringing *real* AC eggs to chicken stock. I wanted to go so bad but it was over 3 hours for me. So, you're upstate then? What part? I'm in dutchess county. To be totally honest, when I first started with chickens I thought the AC were scary looking! I pictured a mean onyx black rooster in my yard! Lol. But I truly see the beauty in the pics you posted! They are stunning! Good for you on having them and being an good, honest breeder. That's an amazing breeding project you've got going there! I wish you the best of luck. Thanks for posting them!

They are soooo beautiful, I seriously LOVE these birds, lol. I've been waiting and hoping for someone with some AC's to come to the thread ;) I am sooo jealous, lol. Maybe 1 day I'll have some of my own.

Oooooo!!!!!! .......my surprise????
I want to get more silkies. I only have the one partridge pullet she has yet to start laying for me. She was hatched in April.....so.....yeah. nothing yet.

My silkies from my April hatch have just returned to laying after hatching chicks.

Mine is normally like that, he actually surprised me when he showed interest in the different rare breeds of chickens I wanted. Normally he just responds to everything with "Uh hu" and then if I ask him a question about what I had said he'll have no clue what I'm talking about cause he wasn't actually listening and just responds to anything I say with an answer he thinks I want to hear, lol.

Hubby and I were talking about the chicks the other evening and he actually said "I really like the black and gold ones"... My golden sebrights. I was shocked lol. He really does love the good ole golden comet girls though, because they are so sweet and friendly... He calls them his girls.

My LO cockerel has only been interested in the older silkies. I haven't seen him try anything with the girls the same age. I was planning to move the LOs tomorrow, but the silkies are staying. Now I'm wondering if that's a bad idea. The boys won't have any older girls and might start on the younger girls that aren't ready yet.... Hmmmmm... What do you think?
