Talk about a weird day. Found a dead stag this morning. Looks like a raccoon got him in the front yard. About 11:30 my wife tells me there's a fox in the backyard. I run out with the .22, can't use a shotgun since there's 5 birds harassing him right behind him! I rolled him from about 70 yds or so. He was down for a bit then took off. He won't be back. Had mange real bad. Barely any fur on this guy at all. Mother Nature hadn't been kind to this fox.

I just wrapped up final round of line breeding to this guy. Four generations of it over the last five years. Looks like I have almost 20 stags and around 12 pullets to pull from for the purpose of resetting line. He has been through all sorts of hell, some of it self imposed. I had three other lines, two based on hens. Two of those were dropped because I did not like how they were coming along. The hen side of line-breeding is a lot tougher, at least for me. Older hens are not quite as reliable breeders as old cocks.
