That is a cool story. I have never had a hawk come close when they're out on cords. I got a ruble I guarantee could drop a coopers stone dead outta the air if given the opportunity.
Yeah, I was ready to run out the door to pull the hawk off! I think the hawk and I were both surprised as the stag is only about 20 weeks old. Didn't know he had it in him, but made for some entertainment this afternoon.

Rooster, he is a nice looking bird, but if you don't mind me asking, what do you plan to do with him? How likely is he to pass that tendency down to his offspring?

We've discussed this before.. In my opinion... man-fighting is an handling/raising problem not a genetic one.
Sorry, missed that discussion... Is it the general consensus that it is a handling issue? I am just asking as I do not know. It amazes me that you can have a rooster that is so docile to be handled and at the drop of a hat wants to dispose of another rooster.

The reason I ask is because I work with another critter and aggression/defensiveness is very much a heritable trait. The genes have been well defined.

Gonna be kinda blunt here but man fighters were not tolerated cause the absolute last thing a handler wanted was a cock with stuff strapped to their legs coming after them. That's just how they suppose to be calm in the hand but brutal on another bird

Not inherited. I think they "can" be made however I have handled all birds the exact same. I only truly have one manfighter. He is a handful. I have not bred him. If in doubt though breed em and see, if they turn out to all be man fighters cull the whole bunch. No big deal.
