I've got 3 splash pullets from last year that are gonna need their spurs trimmed. They are all in the same pen and have always been together. I took the cock out a few weeks ago, they've been good so far but their spurs are getting too long.

cool pup. Maybe Centra would give some of his expertise in that area.

I was counting on females so counting all of main tail.  I suppose the top feather is technically a sickle...

I have not personally handled Sweaters, but some them appear to have huge tails.  Do some intentionally select for tail size simply for show?
I hope not lol kelsos have a pretty long tail maybe they get it from them

That's a nice looking dog. It's funny how quick they learn. Good luck.

To start I would set aside a good calm cock and put him in a pen pup will be to get near frequently. Do not take pup into yard until he calm around that cock. Then walk him with you on leash through yard so balance of birds will calm down around him. Be prepared at times to protect birds from dog using hotwire. At some point you may need to use a hen or cock to correct pup that wants to play with birds. Do not be overly upset if pup kills a bird or two as all my good dogs have done it. Also start thinking like pup is a coon hound so do not get pup into such too early but do start working in that direction early enough pup gets an interest. Do not let pup fight coon directly until more than a solid year old as you do not want a dog scared of coons.

You are going to be investing 2 years in that dog. After doing this a few times I have come to like dogs that do the Lassy thing where they call you out when something is wrong. I do not know how I get that to happen but involves playing talking to dog more than you want friends to see.

He is an American Game Bantam, but my birds are loosing tail, hackle, and saddle. That is the reason he's with the Kelso hens. Thank you for the compliment. I really enjoy looking at the birds on this site.
