Some how or some way, there's got to be a way to get the kids to enjoy having gamefowl or the gamefowl will slowly but surely disappear.
For interest / gamefowl to persist, their should be a pattern of more younger folks than older into games. That is not what I see. Same problem as in agriculture as a whole.

Very true and the interest I see from young people today is different than when I was a kid. In general, they have a very different background and perspective.

Part of problem is not going outside enough. Another part just a problematic is conflicts with vocations. Most people have jobs or living arrangements that conflict with animal care. Game fowl and living in town do not mix well where I am at. Predator management is much more of a problem than I when I was a kid making keeping games even more expensive. Everyone I knew growing up that kept game fowl also hunted. You had to go looking for the fox or raccoon, now they come looking for you.

I had never heard of gamefowl until I was 15.
And I have never hunted an animal in my life....* except maybe a gopher.
The hunting part I think is essential if young birds are to be reared free-range. Some can be reared in confinement, take away the selection pressure of free-range will take away some of what is part of games. There is almost no hunting here and predators of concern are getting too chummy with my rearing facilities.

This is an interesting topic. I think there are many factors. I grew up in a suburban heavily populated area. I did all the normal kid things baseball, football just generally running around the neighborhood. The thing I loved the most was being in the woods. Building forts, learning how to make a fire etc. sometimes quite dangerous.
As I got a little older I would go camping with a friend. Even though we went to campground with a camper. (Old prowler) I loved it. Something about waking up in the woods and getting a nice fire going never goes out of style. I was 9 when I bought my first knife from an Amish guy at a little flea market on one of our camping trips. I’ve been hooked ever since.

Seems like parents nowadays don’t know enough themselves to teach their kids. I see it all the time. Years ago I had a guy at a local lake come up to me and ask for help. He had his son with him fishing but he clearly didn’t know what he was doing. Sons reel was a tangled mess and the guy didn’t have a knife or know how to fix it.

I give him credit because I was much younger than him and it was pride swallowing for him to ask for help yet he still did. So I took the time to show him how to do it properly.
I think more people are interested in the outdoors than many realize. They just don’t have anyone to show them how to go about getting into it.

When it comes to kids in the outdoors it’s getting harder. Access isn’t easy. Many places you can’t do anything other than go for a walk and take pictures. That’s only gonna keep a kids interest for a short time. Actual camping, using a knife, building a fire, tying knots and all the other fun stuff is what it takes.
Every summer all the state parks are jammed full. Most places around here have all the amenities as home. That’s not doing any good.
Grown men afraid of the bumps in the night, lack of a toilet and just lack of comfort is what keeps people away from actual outdoor fun.
