Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Here's hope for you ladies with sons that are trouble. Mine dated an idiot, did everything she did, drank, drugs etc.

Finally after flunking out of college I had to kick him out of the house. He joined the airforce to eat. Now many years later he is clean, Christian family man and a Major in the air force. Married an intelligent forebearing women that I love. I have 5 beautiful Grandchildren by him. He says now that kicking him out was the best thing I could have done for him at the time. Sometimes Love has to love enough to meter out some hard life lessons. I can sure feel for you.
I awoke to 6 week old chicks screeching their heads off this morning. A feral cat,

that was suppose to catch mice was running them back and forth along their enclosed fence area scareing them near to death. Oh, don't ever get cats to kill mice, they watch them play and go after the chicks instead. Yuck.
Cyn and kathy sorry about all the pain your boys are putting you through. Been there.

You all have my total sympathy- my DH had to push his youngest into the Air Force after the kid barely made it through HS, flunked out of community college and wouldn't get a job- bright kid, just no focus and no idea what to do with himself. It was the best thing to happen to him, he is doing well, likes it, is finding out he is good at something. I told DH what your son said, Cetawin, and DH said the heck with hiding van keys from you, you can borrow our SUV!!!!
Anyway, there are times when I think I was blessed to have missed the whole motherhood thing. Hugs to all of you!

After hearing about the 20 something sons I'm scared. I've got enough trouble with the 14 and 16 year old boys (12 year old is still on my good list

).
I also need to stop looking at this thread because I'm getting really jealous of all you Dellie owners.

My Son was intelligent too. He has his masters degree as well as being a Major in the airforce. Why are some men soooo not getting it these days.

I put my newest dozen Del eggs from Bill Braden in the incubator last night around midnight, they should hatch around the 21st!

I decided that I wasn't going to candle the first set of eggs from Mrs. AK Bird Brain until day 18, I told myself I could wait, I have the will power... but it turns out I just couldn't wait! L0L. Last night was day 10/11 for them, I only candled the 3 BBS Orp eggs she sent as packing peanuts and I'm happy to announce that all 3 are showing signs of development!!!

I saw lots of veins on 2 of them and 1 had a very clearly defined eye! It was kind of creepy. I resisted candling any of the Delawares, I'm going to wait until they go into lockdown to see how many I should expect.

Somebody is coming by this afternoon to pick up the Silkies I ordered from Murray McMurray (YUCK!) they also said they might be interested in the little Del cockerels that I'm going to be rehoming later, they asked if they were a dual purpose breed and I said yes... I know I have to rehome the little guys but I don't know how I feel about selling them to somebody who is going to have them for dinner. Should I honestly be concerned? Is it appropriate to ask what they are going to be used for? I don't know?

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Jeremy,
I had to get over the "eating" thing, too. Think about something else, like all the room you will have for those beautiful Braden Dels and gorgeous BBS orps from Mrs. AK, and let them go.

Gloria Jean, because they are men!!!
Froggie17- stick with us!

Cynthia- isn't it unfortunate that intellect doesn't automatically mean common sense or any other kind of intelligence is included in the package! Let's all enjoy our chicken sons - I just realized reading this that Luke hasn't pecked at me for a couple of weeks now, and he sticks by me when I am in the run in a very friendly way. He has roosted on my ankle a couple of times, too.

Cetawin, I got thinking, if feed was missing as well as the chickens, then I am convinced someone took them to have eggs, and wherever they are, they are OK. However, I hope your friend catches them and prosecutes to the fullest!!!! and gets the chickens back.

Hey Kathy, do you think the Suede girls can go in with the other three beauties? Or is the age difference too great? I have them in the same run today, with the little ones in a separate pen - they seem OK so far. I did that yesterday, too, and they acted like they were glad to hang out together.

I keep telling myself that. "The more roos I rehome, the more pullets I get to keep."

I'm pretty sure I've nailed down which Del cockerel I'm keeping, I just want to wait a little longer to see how he develops then the other 2 (or 3, one of them still has me puzzled) will go to new homes. As for the BBS Orps, I hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope that at least 1 of them is a pullet. At this point I'll keep blue, black or splash, I just want one!
