Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Serrin,
Thank you! No, no, no .... you can't have these boys.

BUT, you really should have some Delawares! They are cuddle bugs. Especially the girls. I know you would love them. I can't get a darn thing done when I am our there with those silly girls. If I sit down for a minute, this is what they do ....

I am really beginning to believe that Evie and Prius have Delaware somewhere in their past. Especially Prius, as she's the more cuddle up girl of the two. And through her face, she really looks Dellie. But there's no denying that she is what she is....a mutt! But such a sweet little mutt, you can't help but fall in love with her!

We love our mutts here as much as we love anyone else ! BUT, nothing tops our Dellies for affection and attention! Everyone that comes here falls in love with them.

Hey, we are still waiting to see your pictures, Serrin!

Serrin, you know ANY of us would be more than happy to send you Delaware eggs when the time comes- I just hope I have my roos separated in time, and Luke gets his head together about controlling reluctant women, to send you some of Cora's especially- she is my prettiest, most correct hen! But do show pics of your chickens. Pretty please?

Oh Kathy, those pictures are precious! Is that Stella or Della by any chance? And I can't wait to see pics of the other boy- I remember a few weeks ago you had pics of both, and I thought he just needed time.

Good morning everyone in Dellie world!

YAY! Come on chickies! Father is Jacob or #2 (he still doen't have a name). Most likely Jacob, as #2 doesn't get much action. I have to pen my Delawares again today, and then wait a month for pure eggs. I have had several requests for eggs, and am happy to share.

Hope your others hatch out today!

Beth .... How is Harriet doing? Babies yet?

Kathy, those pictures are so sweet! Delawares really are probably one of the most personable breeds. Yesterday I was munching on french fries out back while the girls were free ranging, well the girls weren't happy that I wasn't sharing... Yvonne (one of my hatchery girls) decides to jump right up on my lap and start pecking at my arm, begging like a puppy. A couple others tried jumping up on the garden table, you'd think that I never fed them. It's a good thing we don't have to many visitors who ask to see the chickens!

ChksontheRun, congrats on your babies! Delawares are adorable chicks.

I went out this morning to check the live trap, it was empty and the food was still inside.

Yesterday night and the night before we trapped 2 BIG oppossums though. I'm happy to say that they'll no longer be a bother to my flock.

Maybe we caught them before they had a chance to breed. Last year we trapped 6, mostly babies or smaller young ones, before we stopped having issues.

Great job, Jeremy, on trapping those vile things. I hope those were the breeders and you will have no more! I trapped 7 raccoons last year, but none this year. I keep my trap bated though.

Pictures, Jeremy, pictures! You have that super duper camera that takes such great photos .... go use it!

Awww! Thanks Beth! And ya know, I think I'm gonna hold you to that offer some day! Hopefully by next spring. By then, with a little luck, all of those hooligans I have out there now will have grown up and settled down to the business at hand! [you know the business, right? The running around and chasing bugs, laying eggs, screaming the egg song at 6 AM! Hollering at the top of their lungs ALL DAY LONG that THEY are the best roo in the whole wide world! All of those things that make up the business of being a chicken!

] And with a little more luck, and a well placed add on Craig's List, I'll have found good homes for Brutus, CB, and Little Red.

Brutus and CB are such good boys! They love their momma and are fairly well behaved with the ladies. But Chief won the race towards being THE MAN! And so all three boys are in need of a good home. I know Little Red has the potential to be a good roo. He just needs more time. And I will NOT foist him off on anyone until I'm sure he can handle being a flock rooster. So, as I see it, he and I have two choices: 1) we give him more time to mature and get a few things clear in that little maniac mind of his, or 2) He goes to freezer camp.

I can't stand the thought, but at some point, it may become a very real possibility. It all depends on his attitude. Right now he's convinced that hens and pullets serve one purpose and one purpose only....rape targets!

All of the boys acted like a pack of over the top hormonal fidiots when they first came into sexual maturity, and so of course there were moments of extreme duress for the older girls and the young pullets both. Brutus, CB and my magnificent Chief all figured out pretty early on that they'd get more flies with honey than vinegar. So, I'm just hoping that all Little Red needs is a bit more time to catch up to the other boys, and then he'll be a wonderful little roo too.

But I digress.................................Sorry...I've gone and done it again......hijacked another thread!

Kathy, I'd love nothing more than to get some great pics of Evie and Prius today, but my son and that lame excuse for a wife of his are coming in on the midnight bus from Olympia tonight, and I still don't have everything ready for their visit.
barnie.gif
Oh how I'd so much rather spend the entire day with the chicken kids!! Please! Can't I just play with my chickens? Please??? Do I have to be a human mommy today????
hit.gif
Well, here goes my peace and tranquility for the next 5 days!
roll.png

But don't worry Kathy, I'll get those pics soon. Hmmm....this might work to my advantage.....I could claim that the pictures, really GOOD pictures, are needed for a genetic research project happening on BYC, and that I've been asked to post pictures of some of the babies. And as EVERYONE knows, one simply does NOT ignore the call of BYC!!!
gig.gif
And as we all know, getting really GOOD pictures of chickens can take an appreciable chunk out of your day!
