Awww! Thanks Beth! And ya know, I think I'm gonna hold you to that offer some day! Hopefully by next spring. By then, with a little luck, all of those hooligans I have out there now will have grown up and settled down to the business at hand! [you know the business, right? The running around and chasing bugs, laying eggs, screaming the egg song at 6 AM! Hollering at the top of their lungs ALL DAY LONG that THEY are the best roo in the whole wide world! All of those things that make up the business of being a chicken!
] And with a little more luck, and a well placed add on Craig's List, I'll have found good homes for Brutus, CB, and Little Red.
Brutus and CB are such good boys! They love their momma and are fairly well behaved with the ladies. But Chief won the race towards being THE MAN! And so all three boys are in need of a good home. I know Little Red has the potential to be a good roo. He just needs more time. And I will NOT foist him off on anyone until I'm sure he can handle being a flock rooster. So, as I see it, he and I have two choices: 1) we give him more time to mature and get a few things clear in that little maniac mind of his, or 2) He goes to freezer camp.
I can't stand the thought, but at some point, it may become a very real possibility. It all depends on his attitude. Right now he's convinced that hens and pullets serve one purpose and one purpose only....rape targets!
All of the boys acted like a pack of over the top hormonal fidiots when they first came into sexual maturity, and so of course there were moments of extreme duress for the older girls and the young pullets both. Brutus, CB and my magnificent Chief all figured out pretty early on that they'd get more flies with honey than vinegar. So, I'm just hoping that all Little Red needs is a bit more time to catch up to the other boys, and then he'll be a wonderful little roo too.
But I digress.................................Sorry...I've gone and done it again......hijacked another thread!
*sigh*
Kathy, I'd love nothing more than to get some great pics of Evie and Prius today, but my son and that lame excuse for a wife of his are coming in on the midnight bus from Olympia tonight, and I still don't have everything ready for their visit.
Oh how I'd so much rather spend the entire day with the chicken kids!! Please! Can't I just play with my chickens? Please??? Do I have to be a human mommy today????
Well, here goes my peace and tranquility for the next 5 days!
But don't worry Kathy, I'll get those pics soon. Hmmm....this might work to my advantage.....I could claim that the pictures, really GOOD pictures, are needed for a genetic research project happening on BYC, and that I've been asked to post pictures of some of the babies. And as EVERYONE knows, one simply does NOT ignore the call of BYC!!!
And as we all know, getting really GOOD pictures of chickens can take an appreciable chunk out of your day!
