Cetawin, with 30 acres, you will most certainly need a trailer - think of how many horses you can have on that acreage!!!!

I have three, and need my trailer for hauling hay, shavings, grain, fencing materials, trips to the dump, etc. It's amazing! I put a hitch on my blazer and keep a weight limit in mind, but it sure is helpful!
Do you suppose Fattie and Cannonball could learn to drive by then? One at the gas and brake and one at the wheel? If they have figured out the phones, a truck should be a snap!

AND YOU NEED THE DELLIE FLAG TO ATTACH TO YOUR ANTENNA.. . . . . . . any more slogan ideas, folks?

Cetawin, I think if I was doing the moving and had a van I would:

Get some dog kennels (they have solid bottoms and poop won't get all over) and put as many chickens as you can fit without hurting them in each one. And some for the ducks. I bet you could get by with 6-7.

Then I would buy one of those portable break-down crates. Every 4 hours or so, you could take a couple of the dog kennels and put the birds that are in them in the portable breakdown crate that you have already put food and water in. (bring spare, clean empty waterers just for that) give them 20 minutes or so while you stretch your legs or have lunch and then put them back in and rotate the next bunch in 4 hours. Then everyone gets food and water several times a day. Yes they will be miserable, but they will be safe.

It may take a few extra hours of time during the total trip, but you would know that everyone was safe. It will get stinky though. Bring lots of paper towels, spray bottle and garbage bags!

The real problem is going to be at night- that is too far to drive straight through, and you need to have them secure for night time stops- I know there are motels that take cats and dogs, but poultry?
So they have to be in cages inside a secure vehicle, not just in cages stacked in a trailer or back of a truck. . . . hmmmm. Is your van big enough?
I know this may be asking a lot, but IS there anyway we could help you plot a cross country course that puts you up nights with BYC people or BYC people's friends? Has anyone done this before?
Or am I being a real Pollyanna?

I dunno if it has been done before. But you are right, a trailer will be necessary on that acreage. I am thinking a quad and a small trailer that I can buzz around on too.

Come to think of it, I bet Cannonball and Fattie could operate the accelerator and brake....but who can I trust to watch the road? Thor would never pay attention and Athena would find it beneath her.

I do need a Dellie flag though...that is a must!

rustyswoman, I do not think I could fit everyone in my van. Albeit I have a conversion van with a bed, the captains chairs would cut the available space to ziltch really. I am thinking of solutions in my sleep...when I am not having dreams of Suede and Ike showing up on my doorstep, ringing my doorbell and acting like they just flew in for a visit.

Delawaregirl, I would love to see pics!

I had something amusing happen last night- I have three little feeders that I try to place strategically, so no one gets trampled in the rush (I agree with Rwoman, they ARE little piggies sometimes) and Ultrasuede and a couple of the for sure pullets usually wait in dignity for the third one to get put down. Well Buckshot decided to do his thing and jumped up and bounced off Ultrasuede's back, and Ultrasuede went after him. Lot's of shrieking.
Then they had a stare down very similar to Cetawin's Thor and Draco (see pics up a few pages) and I thought I would die laughing. . . . Ultrasuede and Thor can give the identical "I'll bury you 6 feet under" look - do they inherit it from Suede????

Is it OK to say Merry Christmas????

Joletabey I believe it is okay to say it... Merry Christmas Dellie Fans!

Yes, Ultrasuede and Thor get it from their daddy Somewhere (I am sure) Cyn has a pic or two of Suede in that mode with one of her other boys, probably Dutch. LOL
