Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

That Isaac is just the best. Every day, he amazes me at how laid-back and calm he is. I hope you get one like him, Jeremy. I noticed that his beak was really long today, about as long as my crippled BR rooster's who never gets to do things to sharpen his. So, I picked him up and took him to the house to have DH trim it. He is just the sweetest, calmest boy and he held pretty still after he saw what we were doing to him, and afterward, just sat in my lap and let us both pet him. I mentioned to DH that if I didn't have the 4th rooster, I could put the girls in his coop back in the main flock and let Suede have the larger coop and keep Suede's empty for whatever uses we might have for it, thereby lessening out work load here. DH says something like, "But he's so good and he's such a pet!" So, seems there is some resistance from the other half to letting Isaac go anywhere, LOL. He wants me to stop thinking like a breeder and just have a flock to enjoy, but to me, that means I don't need an extra rooster.

Busy day, working outside in the drizzle; just taking a quick break to grab a bite and check in. I will post a few pictures later.

Celtawin I am sorry for your trial. Certainly we all would be there to help if you could. I like lions so I guess I would like it where you are.

l appreciate the comments about the roos legs and he is nice but I think the wing problem w/ Nick is not just his age so I don't intend to keep any roos to Replace Nick from his progeny. I dont' have a good camera but her are some shots of the other two that I believe to be pullets. Their legs are not as yellow. I don't understand why out of all the Del eggs I set I'm only gettting one or two to hatch. I'm already saving eggs for the next one, and I intend to order eggs from Oregon. Though my first was about 6 out of 13. I've got a new incu so I thought that would help. I've watch the temp and all that. If I'm to believe the thermo/hygr. the temps have been fluctuating more than I like. Anywhere's from 99.1 to 100.0.

For those who don't know I got eggs from Speckledhen God Bless her. They've started to pip, so keep your fingers crossed. I'm not a patient person so they are taking too darn long! My wife is always telling me to slow down, cuz I walk too fast. Never thought I'd say this but I'm hoping for roos. Same here for the hatchery birds, though I expect I'll always keep Dels. I have a seperate set up for them and that's the way I intend to keep it.

Well girls or boys? One is older, and doesn't show red in the comb like the earlier chick I posted who is younger. One is the same age and I'm pretty sure she's a she. She has no red either.

Kathy I cannot lie...DH and I are in the same boat as Cyn and Tom...we do not NEED an extra roo we WANT him. He would be a pet and have his own girls and live the high life with me too...

I am not going to breed Delawares unless I found excellent, non-vicious, breeder stock somewhere to give him but I would only raise my own flock. I promised Cyn he would be a pet and family member and that I would not use him for any type of profit...and I am keeping that word to her if I go get him.

I am not a breeder standard type person....they are pets and I love them and enjoy them.

Well on the moving front...I am finally back up to half speed and still much to do when our help to assist us loading and doing dumps runs, has backed out...all 5 of them so, it is hubby and I against the world right now...LOL But that's okay because we have been there before and we shall get it done.

Thank you rancher hicks....the offer means a lot

And this is Tyson, their guardian! (Named Tyson because he looked like a boxer when he was born!)
YAY! I got my load of pea gravel today! This is 1/2 the price of sand, and is going into all of the runs. The price of sand nearly doubled from last year!

And, here is Holly (Fern's first chick). She will live her forever, as she has stolen DS's heart! She is such a sweet little thing. She lives with the Dellies, and comes up for a chest rub and attention, just like they do! DS, Brock, has let it be known that Miss Holly is going nowhere!

So far for the hatch no Dels. two started to pip but that was hours ago. Of the six EE eggs three have hatched and two more have pipped. I'm really disappointed about the Dels but such is life. Who knows maybe they'll be something tomorrow.
