Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Sand Hill Preservation sent me 5 dellies as a surprise about a month ago.

Today the "mob" (as we call any large group of chicks that gets brooded in the floor pen because they are all little maniacs for a while) went outside to live in a sliding shelter on grass pasture surrounded by electronet.

Of the five dellies, 4 currently have large boxy builds, one has a "lean and hungry look" and a lot of smut.

of the four boxy birds, one has legs that are noticably greenish. All the others have nice yellow legs.

I would not want to guess gender at this time.

of the mob, they were the first ones to discover that grass is good to eat and clover better.

They like to run along the length of the wide branch I hung in there for a roost.

they also appear to be kindest to the 7 chicks we hatched ourselves a week after the mob arrived. One of these home-hatched chicks is "Mutt" the Delaware/Speckled Sussex cross who looks like a very dirty Delaware at this point. The kids like Mutt, but I keep reminding them that if Mutt is a rooster he will be eaten.

I am wishing everyone good luck with the birds in this summer weather.

We head to the fair next week.

Isaac is breathing more normally now. He was crowing a bit ago, so maybe just getting where he can't walk all over and stress himself helped. Will watch out for him. I don't think the infection traveled. The toe isn't swollen and looks dry, nothing up the leg at all.

Jacob is the spitting image of daddy Ike. Love that boy!

That Jacob is one handsome fella ... that boy does his Daddy proud.

Thor gone, hubby gone, MIL here, Cheyenne here, raccoon evading me, DeDe eating peas and watching movies and me just Blech.

I actually had a nightmare last night that one of the girls flew on top of the AC unit and it fell out of the window and crushed some of my girls soooooooooo at 3:30 am I was outside in my jammies checking everyone, checking the AC and then worrying all night. It is secure and not going anywhere...I am just a nervous ninny right now.

Time to go hug a chicken!
