Tiny and petite, clean legs. Colorwise, many varieties start out chipmunk striped, but some don't. I think most of the bantams in store bins are either silkies or cochins, which should be obvious to avoid, and OEGBs. Some may have d'uccle too, those should be easy enough to tell also.
If the have bantam "Americana's" i.e. Easter Eggers, they would probably be striped, but look for puffy cheeks to rule them out.

Not sure if that's helpful, or if someone else can do better, but that's what I'd look for.
