Sick SLW- 7 months old- nothing is helping

I found this information by SpeckledHills also for anyone who is having similar issues https://sites.google.com/a/poultryp...oultry-podiatry#chickens_penicillin_injection
This person is very extensive about how to administer shots in general along with other issues that one may experience.

Eggcessive, 0.1 ml? really that's all. That seems like such a small dosage. Or is it 0.1 ml/ pound?
Yes, that is enough. Penicillin dosage here on BYC is all over the place. There is a wide safety margin, but the smaller amount you inject, the better in a chicken"s breast. If you read one link, it says 1/2 cc, another says it is 1/10 of a cc. Here is a post from Natalie Ross:

Pen G procaine is given daily for no more than four days. The dosage for poultry or waterfowl (under 10 pounds) is listed as less than 1/4 cc if the Penicillin G Procaine is 300,000 I.U. (which is most often is) for animals from 1-10 kg (each kg = 2 pounds, so 1-20 pounds). The dosage is actually listed as 1ml (cc) per 100 pounds of body weight, but giving 1/10th of a cc would be troublesome and it has a high safety margin.

Yes, I found another post by Nathalie Ross that is very extensive about wound care. I did the 1/4cc since she is badly still (maybe a little extra will boost her?); however, tomorrow I will do the 0.1cc or as close as I can get it. Thank you all so much!!! I also just gave her some yogurt for the natural culture and she is gobbling it right up! When she started eating it I started to cry. I just hope she keeps making it day by day. I also brought her out this morning in the sunlight and her pupils started dilating again. this makes me very hopeful, as well. I will keep you all updated. Again, thank you! You may not feel as if you are doing anything by just posting to a forum, but it warms my heart knowing that someone out there is willing to at least advise me in the right direction and help figure this issue out. I know I have thanked you all enough for the world, but it truly does mean a lot to me.

The PoultryPedia site is good for some things, but if you read her link on procaine penicillin, she indicates that it can be given orally, and that is wrong. I also question some of her dosages on Tylan and other meds. Most dosages of drugs on chickens is questionable unless it comes from a veterinary drug book or other source. Most ones I can find only give dosages for cows and pigs, LOL. Here is another link (notice chickens are not mentioned): http://vetmed.tamu.edu/common/docs/public/aavpt/penicillinG.pdf

Ok, my backyard chicken lovers I've got another mystery about Velma... Through out the day she seemed to be a little better. I took her outside to sun bathe and she loved it. Here's the mysterious part... She has started making weird noises with her mouth closed. I can only describe it as the noise that is made while sucking air through a straw, but a little more high pitched. I thought wowa what was that? She's been doing that for the better part of this evening. She is now only keeping one eye closed not both. Which I found to be a little off. The skin around the eye that she is keeping closed is a little swollen as well. Another weird thing too... The side of her head that the swollen/closed eye is the only side that is still pale looking. She is not sneezing or sounding gurgly at all. The skin on that side has turned from yellow to white. I do not think this is normal either. However the other side of her face is normal looking. Pink color has returned and is looking better from yesterday. Could this be a respiratory thing? Oh, She has also started opening her mouth as if she were yawning then she will close it shut again. So I smelled her breath and it smelled fine and I looked in and around in her mouth to see if there was something going on and it all looks normal. She is also opening and closing her mouth really fast as if she were drinking up water or eating some bits of food but she is not eating or drinking at that moment. She has also started twitching at times, however it is not constant; also not sure about this. Could it be a little reaction to the antibiotic? Does anyone know what is going on with my Velma? Any and all advice is needed!

Procaine Penicillin G 300, 000 units per ml--Clean off the skin with alcohol, shake the bottle well, give 0.1 ml or cc into the breast muscle with a 20 gauge needle inserted 1/4 to 1/2 inch, and massage it into the muscle, rotating sides daily for 4 days. This medication is very thick, and you may have to use an 18 gauge needle to withdraw it from the bottle, but try to use the smaller needle for injection. Normally, I would use a 22 gauge needle for other medications, but this one is too thick.
I've always used 0.5 ml in the thigh on standard birds. It's thick, so I also draw up 0.1 ml of sterile water. Much easier.
