Just got caught up with the thread, it was a busy last few days here! I'm loving everyone's little ones (both silkie and non)! ❤️

I'm so excited to have some new additions to add to the flock here. A friend and I exchanged some grow outs. She's helping me get some colors I was hoping for to help out with different color projects. I'll have to try to get some pictures soon of some of the new little ones. :)

I should have some new babies hatching here soon as well. Crossing my fingers for some splash (hopefully with some red leakage to work towards splash calico) but with the coupling I picked they could throw all sorts of things. It'll be fun being surprised anyway.

I got some new pictures of the mille satin babies earlier today as well. They are 4 weeks old now. I talked to the breeder and it sounds like they will be splits (not homozygous for mottling but carrying it) so I won't get or get to show anyone full patterned mille babies yet. If I get some of each sex I should be able to breed them together to get around 25% that should be full patterned though. :fl

The naked necks on 3 of the 4 maybe weren't so obvious before but they sure are now! 😂

At 12 weeks there may be some pretty good hints at sex anyway. If you are going to pick some up and are hoping to pick out pullets going for ones with rounder crests and little to no comb development will help your odds.

Silkie juvaniles develop at different rates and certain lines may be quicker or slower but here is a quick reference to show kind of what to look for. These particular babies were quick to develop and I could sex most of this hatch fairly accurately by 10-12 weeks.

Here is an obvious female she was 10 weeks old at the time (nice rounded crest, small comb)

And this one is a male at 10 weeks (more swept back crest and the beginning of "streamers", larger comb)

And here is a male at 11 weeks that has obvious streamers. Sometimes the girls can have the swept back crests too but they very rarely have the obvious streamers (decently longer crest feathers sticking out of the back of the crest).

Oh I'm so glad the other is out so the first baby has company at least! I hope the others are just a bit behind and you'll have some more babies coming soon. :fl
Really nice colors you get to work with there in those miles! I'm itching to get me some to go with my columbian satin roos!

I didn't get pictures of all the new ones but here are a few. :)

These two satins are siblings. Dad is a pretty red frizzle satin and mom is a red laced/red penciled satin I believe. Dad carries dominant white which the smooth satin inherited as well. Pretty sure these are both girls. 😊

This guy is a more mature splash cockerel (he wasn't so happy about the small space but got moved to some bigger accommodations after the pictures). My friend isn't so fond of the Nn and NN silkies/satins so I got a decent amount with naked necks from her. 😂

Here is a group shot of some of the other babies. Some mixed color ones and a paint and a buff. The paint is actually homozygous for the naked neck so it'll be fun to get 100% naked necks when pairing her with a regular silkie partner! 😁

And this is the youngest baby. I thought she had an interesting color as a newly hatched chick so when my friend wasn't going to keep her to grow out herself I asked if I could have the little one. The parents are a recessive white boy and a blue based gray/silver partridge girl. Her color reminds me of something I would call mauve or khaki partridge depending on what genes caused it. I'll have to test breed to see if she is carrying dun or sex linked chocolate or if she just happened to get an interesting color without those genetics involved. Some breeders around here do have sex linked chocolate silkies so perhaps some of those genetics might be floating around in some mixed color flocks from the area.

Thanks! When these guys get old enough to breed I'll definitely check in to see if you'd like some eggs then. 😊

Your satins you have now are all just so pretty! ❤️

Oh the frizzle!!! Just stunning!
Do you see the frizzles get picked on more so since they are quite different?

Oh that would be awesome since we are in same state!

Thank you! I've never had a frizzle silkie or satin so getting her is pretty exciting! She's hopefully going to be involved in multiple of my color projects to get some frizzles in them as well. 😁

I haven't really had enough experience with the frizzles to say how they do. I had a little frizzle bantam cochin years ago that did well in the flock despite being different and smaller than most of the others (most were standard sized). I'll have to see how everyone reacts to this girl when she is introduced and if she has a harder time integrating. I think it should hopefully not be an issue though.

That's so awesome u r getting to add her to your fam! Absolutely luv how elegant the frizzles look! Let me know if she has the personality to pull it off as well 😉!
Cannot wait to see how it goes!
