Broody Hen  what to look for
Capture9-17.JPG

I noticed last week some splat chicken poo-- Yesterday- This hen -
DSCN0106.JPG
( when she was small one of the other chickens ripped her comb)

I noticed was just standing in the nesting box , So I went in to have a chat with her, I noticed her comb had some dark tips ( a sign of not happy) I felt her abdomen, no problem, she felt thin, So I set her in front of the feed.

I went back in and from the kitchen window I could see she was back in the box-- Well I have been through this before with the Buff Orphingtons ( they are ALWAYS broody)

the Hens were a year old last May, they have non stop laid eggs and have not molted, SO! they are due for a break.

So, here are a few good reads for ya.

Just go out off and on and toss them out of the box for exercise & water. they dont eat much so if you can hand feed them, it wouldn't hurt.

Wow. Leghorns rarely go broody. That's pretty amazing, poor girl.

Well, ByBob, she wasnt broody, she wasnt egg bound, she had a sour crop.
I worked on her for the whole day, and she just couldnt hang in there.

She would just stand like this all day and refused to move. I did all of the sour crop things to do.

So, this morning, this hen died.
