Well my hens started their 25th week on Monday, yesterday I got 7 eggs , this morning a soft shell was in the sand under the coop, typically a first egger so thats one for today---
so 6 more hens should start laying this week. I have 13 hens.

I have 14 hens and I'm only getting 6, 7, or 8 most of the time; but yesterday I got 4.

I have talked DH into getting chicks this spring, as my girls will be 2 and 3 years old this summer, and therefore past their prime.

One of my hens went broody last summer, 4 times! I'm torn between getting chicks (more reliably pullets) and putting them under her one night (surprise, here we are, mom!), or maybe hatching eggs. I'd do the latter in a second if my neighbor would promise to take any cockerels.

We need to add onto the coop first. It's at about 47 sf, and it'll be about 60 when we get done. I have 6 hens and 1 rooster now; I'm thinking 3 chicks, for a nice round flock of 10. The run is big enough for 10: 160+ sf. I'd like to add onto it, but it wouldn't be easy.

yes, good time to add chicks. Not all hens like chicks, so thats great if you have a broody one about the time you want to get them.

Good Morning, I went to bed at 8:30 and got up at 3:37am holy cow, I tried to sleep in,
So an hour later, fires are done, dogs fed and coop open, chicken poop scooped up,
having cup#1 :caf
more of the same today, just getting all I can get done inside before I have to get going outside .Reorganizing closets, under cupboards throwing stuff out I can live without. Thumb driving all photos and doc's off old computers to strip/reset to send to recycle.
Happy Friday, I'll chat back on monday

Wow, we really need to do what you're doing!

We're FINALLY building a pantry in the mudroom, after saying it would be a great idea for 25+ years. We're converting a large closet. Then I can get most of the dry goods/canned goods that are store in the basement upstairs. And THEN we can start making the basement usable space!
