My power blinked 45 minutes ago so I have spent the last 45 prepping. It may or may not honor but let’s be proactive.
Even though we have big blue water jugs I always fill ever pitcher I have, camp style coffee pots etc. I keep a big canning pot filled for dishes. And for me a very important task…….
Pre grind the coffee ️ beans I do have a manual grinder if needed but I filled the container.
The dogs are waiting for me to finish my coffee, they are hungry but it’s only 5 they can wait a bit.

Ok, chickens did well over night again. The night before it was 16, but 21 last night. I went out at 5:15 after I fed the dogs and I got their water jug. I rinsed it out and put 2gal of warm water in with electrolytes and scooped the nights poop up. I left the door shut until it’s light and a bit warmer, I don’t want them getting wet and the water freeze on them.

7 degrees here. Blowing, snowing. I took out the food and water for the chickens. I'll check in a bit to see if there are any tracks in the snow to the water bowl. If not, I'll put a bowl of snow in the coop for them to nosh on. I put food in the coop, but not water. Giving them snow has worked well in the past.

I opened the pop door, but left the people door closed. Even though the run is wrapped on 3 sides, snow whips around in this wind and there's a dusting over everything.

I got up at 5, made coffee and went out to the coop. scooped all the nights poop and took the water jug in the house for a rinse and refill- I am so glad its warmer. I did get 2 eggs yesterday. the flock is at the end of 23 weeks old and the rest of the hens combs have finally reddened up.
I have my pork & red chili pasole thawing and set out the chicken green chili and pork red chili tamales I made. The pasole will cook all morning.


And I guess I better build a fire now, I didnt when I got up and I am cold..
AND! I am making ham and pancakes for breakfast again.
