Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

My sister in law ans husband are visiting next weekend for the first time...well...um...ever (and we've been married 23 years!) from Texas and we were hoping it would be spring here by then.

Good morning all, I am wondering if Sour has a dance to get chickens to lay eggs. Mine have not laid a single egg - born Oct. 20...
Drinking coffee waiting for eggs:rolleyes:
Ok, Sour. Time for one of your famous predictions.

The rabbit thinks pollitos' hens will lay their first egg before Easter.

He points his wand in your direction, and all of your chickens go broody, even the leghorns.

I need that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sourland,
Point your wand at my chickens!!! Please.
I'm not getting a good hatch rate with the incubator, so I need all the help I can get!!!

I don't know that I care for the image of Sour sitting in a nest.
hide.gif

And I'm not sure you'd care for the image of Sourland dancing, but he does, and when he does, hens go broody.
smile.png

The only image of Sourland I have is the magician's hat in his avatar, and I wouldn't mind that sitting on a nest, as long as I get chicks!!!

Perhaps you need a broody flock? I can oblige----------------------
wink.png
I think I do. But I need eggs too, so it's a hard call to make, but broody hens make more hens (later).
I'm just not getting very many chicks out of my incubator. My first hatch was 1/18 and the second one was supposed to be over Sunday, but they're still in there and moving, so.......
How would you oblige? If you don't mind my asking.

Hey, I'm not the Muhammad Ali of egg production, but I'm betting those hens will start laying the first or second week in May.

Teachick, how would I oblige? Well, I'd

I messed with the chicken Ouija board, didn't I?
Never mess with those things.... nuts.

Hey, that will be okay. I have 13 hens. If each hen goes broody and I get a dozen eggs from Pampered poultry or Halo... oh, nuts, chicken math.
I will need 13 eggs. then if each momma has one chick I will not have to worry about integrating them. This could work.

Whip that wand. ...But give me a couple months. I have so much work to do. I have decided sleeping might become an optional event.

I made that decision in high school and have regretted it ever since. My brain chemistry says sleep is NOT optional. I keep having a little one in the house who keeps trying to convince it otherwise, but it's sticking to its guns. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Now I'm curious. How do you mean? Teach me TeaChick!
wink.png

Me teach someone something on BYC?????? I'm not worthy!!
I got some layer pellets from a particular feed store (anyone can PM me for the name, but I'm not trying to ruin any company's reputation), and I tried to ferment it; it just got soggy and went bad. Then, I got some "all natural" layer pellets and they fermented very nicely!!!
Does that explain?

Quoting FarmGirl:
But coffee in the FF is still a no-go. Not only is a waste of good coffee, I'm told that there's no truth to the rumor that caffeinated chickens lay faster.

They don't??

Who cares whether they do or not???? It's a waste of good coffee!!!!!!

GPS pointed towards NW Georgia with an over ride to North Central Fla.

Gritsar gave me the title after her entire flock went broody, and Emthefishlady created my avatar after a similar experience.

Glad to be of assistance, but be careful what you ask for. Hope the scatter doesn't affect others..

appears to be some fallout over coastal NC.

I'm hoping for some fallout here!!!

out my front door this morning

out my backdoor. The pump is the tall style like you see
in state parks.

This is my herb garden this morning. Think I might have
to delay planting a day or two?

My girls staring at the fresh snow and refusing to come
out of the greenhouse. My big roo, Max, actually did
step out, literally did a hop and skip and landed right
back inside!

This my big tough 9 month old roo (notice the size diff between him and
my year old reds next to him) hiding in the greenhouse. His tail
looks so raggy because the big bullies beside him keep pulling his
feathers out when he tries to mount them!

I have to say that it feels great to be 'back in action' once again. I haven't done the Broody Dance in ages. Now if I can just get this Broody GPS squared away ----------------------
tongue.png

I'm easy for GPS; I'm "on the intro-web"!!! =D

I was told 1/2 cup per bird.

I keep pellets in the coop too for now they really love the FF and that too is mostly layer pellets.

but i had a mite situation and they seem skinny to me so I am alos giving them scrambled eggs Broccoli and tuna fish or salmon which is their all time favorite.

Right now I am concentrating on health and well being of my Ladies rather than quality of Eggs so I have ALL my measurements mixed up.

I'm such a bad chicken person; it's a wonder mine stick around. They're free to leave all day long, yet I find them all in the coop every night.
hu.gif

I just dump two peanut butter jars of "all natural" layer pellets to rain water the depth of almost the length of my hand. (enough to plenty cover the pellets by about an inch or so)
I let it sit until the next day. At that point, all the feed has soaked up all the water and it looks like a cake does when it comes out of the oven, all puffed up. Sometimes it's started fermenting and it smells all nice and tangy when I stir it, but sometimes that takes until the next day.
Either way, I use a garden trowel (the small hand shovel thing) and scoop out enough to fill a plastic spinach container two thirds full (I think it would hold about 16 cups [four of my four-cup measure] so I put about 12 cups of that mixture in the container. {no wonder there's so much feed left over every day}
I stir in another peanut butter jar of feed and then pour over enough water to cover by an inch or two and leave it all for the next day.
Sometimes, I stir the left over feed back into the bucket (Oh, I do all this in a five-gallon bucket; I use one that has holes in it to keep leaves and kids out of the FF; I put a 5-gal bucket in each of two tires, the tires are to keep chickens and children from knocking over the buckets and wasting my rain water, and I just do all this when I have rain water, but it works well with my hose water too.)
Sometimes changing my chickens' feed causes egg production to go down. What has kept that from happening, is that when my chickens start following me around, I go back in and get them a peanut butter jar of layer pellets. They don't follow me around b/c they like me, well, there are two that would, but when they're all following me, even the Leghorns, then I know they want food.
wow! I should have written a book. lol

I love this thread was so tired yesterday I didn't get a chance to get on my comp.

Went to bed and couldn't sleep until I had My Coffee with my bed time coffee.

Today just reminded me of how ironic life is sometimes< The most ridiculous thing you can think of and someone has probably done it.

in my experience that someone is usually me

I didn't get on yesterday either. I miss you guys when I'm not on too!!!

Granddaughter again today have a blessed day All and lots of Very Very Strong Coffee

I hope you have fun with your G-D!!!
I had blond coffee this morning; not what I was hoping for! =( Oh, well, tomorrow's another coffee day; DH making the coffee would totally make up for today's coffee. ;)

Good morning:cd.
So what else is in FF - I know it can't be coffee...

feed and water and time (not thyme, time)

Bacon and egg sandwich on sourdough bread for lunch.

Non FF contaminated cup of coffee.

I want that for lunch tomorrow, please?

This is my cup of the day. This whole week. Too much to do so little coffee.

No broodies here! All are laying nicely!

The new chickies are doing pretty good. Although 3 had pastybutt and 2 more were working on it. One was pretty bad. The lttle vent was almost plugged. She was pretty chilly by the time we finished. I held her and warmed her under the heat lamp for about 5 minutes and she was running with the crowd in another 5 minutes. Whew! Keeping my eye on her. One of the white rocks. I tried to take pictures but the unheated sunroom was still too cold for them and they refused to pose. 20 + pictures all blurred or butts or both!
barnie.gif

I'll have to bring them upstairs in the house tomorrow and try again!

Meanwhile in the new brooder the silkies are are all doing well. Got a couple of very assertive ones. They don't know what to do with all tbe new space sometimes. It's 32 inches wide x 64 inches long x 24 inches high. I'm thinking of making a detachable pitched roof for it to give a little more height for more versatile use.

Construction is going well. Electrical, insulation done and new and old studs are holding drywall. 1st and second mudding and new subfloor down.

So much on here can't remember everything so here is a

to cover everything I may have been thinking.
I've been collecting my BCF's eggs; she's laying outside the bucket now. =( After this weekend, I'll let her start collecting a clutch. Hopefully, she goes broody after that!!!
Blurred butt pictures???? I have the same problem with taking pics of my chickens.
The roof sounds like a good idea.
Yay for construction going well.
lol

Its good. :) What about yours?

mine was a little yucky this morning
hoping DH makes it tomorrow; I can't do my own cream and sugar right

I'm so glad I'm not alone!!!!!!
