Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

I used to mainline brewed coffee all day long.  At work I would probably drink five cups...  First percolated then I discovered drip brewing.  Then i discovered Coffee Toddy making  (btw if you can do it its probably the best of all).  Broke my toddy brewer  then Espresso got popular and I was hooked.

I have my four shots in a sixteen ounce cup... no bigger no smaller...  Then I use three sweet and lows... I cant taste sugar in coffee at all.  Then top the whole thing to the brim with half and half.  It comes out luke warm and very satisfying and it takes me a good three to four hours to drink.

OK, help me out here (feeling uneducated) i thought a hot toddy was a coffee with alcohol. What is a toddy brewer???

Its not a hot toddy maker its a Toddy maker. What it is is a glass carafe to receive the coffee which is brewed cold in a container with a thick filter in the bottom. You put the filter in and a cork on the bottom Then fill it with a POUND of coffee then pour in pure water up to the line. You leave it sit for over night or several hours. You dispense it into the carafe by removing the stopper. it takes a very long time to strain through the filter. When you are done you have a coffee concentrate. A splash of the concentrate and fill with hot water or what ever.... It can be portioned and frozen too.

Brilliant!

Morning guys.

Deb, I don't like the idea of pipes, because that makes for easily clogged, hard to clean systems. I just have the nipples connected straight to a container. We only have a small flock, so it works fine. They seem to not drink all that much, we have two 10 liter waterers, the one in the run lasts for about 2 weeks, and in the coop I've never had to change the water because it would be empty. In wintertime they will probably drink more though, since they won't have the option to free range, and mash won't be possible in freezing conditions either, so they won't get water from that. Our tap water is basically spring water, there are very few contaminants in it, so it stays fresh in a container for a long time.

I'll do some more research on what I could build semi cheaply next week, then you can try to think of everything wrong with my design, and shoot it down.

Welcome perchie!:frow

We get below freezing here but nothing like Alaskan. Our coop is open on one side with screening as we have more heat issues in the summer than freezing in the winter. Last winter I went with the flexible rubber pan some folks use to feed horses when the temps would drop. That way, I could break it our in the morning an usually it would be above freezing in the day so it would thaw. On the few days we stay below freezing, we just make several trips out and change the pan/water. This is obviously a southern fix. ;)
