Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

There's also a feed store in Eastport.
One of the few that mill their own feed.
I have used them a few times, I am thinking of switching over to them.
Small but nice, and cheaper than the big names...

Will get the info after I have had more coffee.

A goat has always been on my maybe list. I have weeds that need to be eaten.
Do you know what breed, or can you get me a pic?
There's quite a difference between all the breeds in their size. Does it have ears?

Quick question for you guys:

My girls (2.5 months) are still in their brooder as the coop is not complete. I have three. I do let them outdoors to roam and play when I'm in the yard with them (generally on the weekends) and change their pine shavings litter once a week.

They are very tame and this morning when fed them, I noticed that my friendliest girl was keeping her mouth open and seemed to be choking as she ate. It looked like she needed water but I couldn't pursuade her to drink. Then she sneezed. She continued to eat but it looked like she was choking as she did so.

She does appear to be eating more normally now but she's making strange noises every now and then.

My questions:

Are chickens like us in that they can choke if they eat too fast?
Is medicated feed enough?
Do I need to take them in for vets appointments for vaccinations?

Thanks guys

So here's the latest on Pauline, as in the Perils of...Once again, she found a way out of the brooding pen. This time, the big girls pecked her so badly, I found her with a big bloody bald spot on her neck. This all happened while I was out yesterday morning. Cleaned her up, applied bacitracin and it's back into the living room for her.

I have to figure out how she's breaking out of that pen. Clara has been sleeping next to the brooder box in the living room. She has totally bonded with this poor little baby. Good thing, because it's going to be weeks before I let her out of my sight again.
Aww, poor Pauline!

He asked me to come in and see it today. I said NO. I know where this is leading.
I know it's not a Pygmy. I think he would have said if it didn't have ears.
Goats are herd animals and you really need to have at least 2.
He didn't even say whether it was male or female. That's all I would need it to be milking it.if you don't they get engorged. I'll find out. I just can't ask too many questions cause before you know it ,it's in the back yard.

By the way, I love their eyes. The earless ones kinda freak me out and nothing usually does.

Somedays you know you shouldn't answer the phone ..yesterday my husband called asking me if he could bring a goat home.... Someone dropped it off at the clinic. Very friendly walks on a leash(my dog doesn't even do that) I said NO and he said he was going to anyway..Why bother calling? He must of thought better of it and it's still at the hospital...thank goodness.this is all I need. I already have a dog, snake, bearded dragon, two turtles and my girls. I say my girls 'cause none of the other creatures are mine. They just appear and he knows I'll take care of them. In 35 years of marriage I only ever had the occasional dog and a parrot yet at one point there were 13 animals in this house. He would bring them home under the pretense that they were for Adam. Some how they ended up mine.

Oh your so lucky, I want dwarf or Pygmy goats but I'm not allowed.

Do you know goats need a buddy or they get lonely?

And you don't stop to say hi? I'm in Miller Place! By the way, Brian's Aquarium in Rocky Point has feed and supplies too! They stock chicken feed, horse feed and some other farm animal supplies. I go there, since it's a small mom and pop store, and there's a few people at Agway in PJ that make me uncomfortable. :idunno
wow I've been to Brian's to get stuff for my reef tank. I didn't know they sold chicken stuff. Lool

Busy day today. Scrubbing out a big plastic dog carrier (with the screen door thing) for broody #2, I will move her tonight.
I realized I better sanitize and set up my incubator just in case. Actually I think I'll have too many eggs for the girls to sit on anyways. I won 2 doz and they sometimes send extras.
I'm thinking 8 eggs each and the rest for the bator. I was reading the broody Hatchalong thing on here. Some people say they give a large hen 12 eggs one guy said 20!!!
I can't see how they could do 20. My Cochin is huge but 20????? I dunno. They are getting 8, and I will swap any unhatched eggs with bator chicks at night. I was looking at old pictures of my hens from when I got them. Now I'm Broody too. :)

Nope. No ears. It's an earless goat. But I hear they're very quiet...
