Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

How long were they in transit for? Six months?! This seems unusual... they aren't chicks are they? I dunno, I'm concerned that a breeder would ship anything that was already doing poorly. Hmph.

The birds are now drinking and eating. My daughter just made them a "pizza" with layers of Flockraiser, Black Oil Sunflower seeds, Poultry Conditioner and probiotics on a plate. We think the splash boy (who was passing blood) may have had a stroke. These 4.5 month old birds were all perfectly healthy when shipped. They should have arrived w/in 24hrs(as guaranteed) but didn't get put on the proper flights. They spent Thurs, Fri and Sat with no water. The breeder has never had this happen before. What a shame that this occurred...

Carol, do you know if it's possible to give a subcutaneous injection of fluids to re-hydrate these birds? If so, what size needle should I buy and would sterile saline work?

Hello all just got home from Florida this afternoon.
Great walks on the beach with my friend, held my own with the casino, had a nice time visiting with my brother and his family but all just way too short.
Tina sorry to hear about the troubles you're having with your new girls.
I'd imagine you could do the subcutaneous thing with chickens for dehydration but I just don't know.
Sad to feel so helpless.

Wow, how old were the trees, any idea?

Keep it out of the sunshine/heat and in a cool dark place till you find out what it is composed of.
What would you say the interior/bowl part is made of? pottery? glass? It could even be an old urn for ashes for all you know.
The outside is made from? From the pic looks almost like canvas but I am sure if it was underground it couldn't be cause it would have rotted long ago.
Interesting piece.......

You sure have run the rough road with your silkies lately. What a crying shame.......Were they express/overnight shipped? Or priority?
I am so happy to read that they are improving. Best wishes!

My Dad found this kool pot thing in the tree roots from the trees he had taken down.

Karen, what is that made of? It's probably some Native American object worth millions.

It's made of wood, I think. Its about the size
of a coconut. The outside of it feels
like paper maybe animal hide, but if it is shouldn't
that have rotted? The tree was huge like 3' diameter,
no idea how old it was though. The inside is chared,
like it was used to burn something. Going to contact a native American
museum and see if they know what it is.

Thank you for your good wishes. These birds were express shipped with guaranteed overnight delivery. My husband and I just shook our heads and wondered why we are having such bad luck with silkies.

Here they are "hiding" from the watermelon, lettuce and tomatoes...
