Hey Guys,
I do apologize for saying anything negative about L.I., I know how beautiful it is out there, I just worry for you all. I got the Smithsonian magazine email this morning and there's a fascinating story about a witch hunt on East Hampton -

Apparently there's an event scheduled for November out there if any of you are interested.
This storm is finally sinking in for me. I had the news off for the last few days because of that horrible case where the nanny murdered the two children. I couldn't stand to hear about it without crying and I didn't want the girls to hear it either. Plus the weather was so beautiful Fri & Sat. I just took the dog for a walk and already though the wind is picking up, the sky seems grey... very ominous. We are lucky to be on the peak of a hill and have never had flooding, plus the generator, so aside from filling a bathtub with water I'm good to go. I also have enough canned goods to last a month, YES I CAN!, hee hee. Unfortunately my in-laws are coming to stay over tonight which I hope does not include political diatribes and religious indoctrination. As long as my youngest doesn't inform her grandmother that Mommy does not believe in God we should be ok.
Roberta you cracked me up with your summary of LIPA's message. ConEd is even worse, they raise the rates and tell everyone they are upgrading equipment and then surprise! the power goes out in Queens for three weeks. Oh well at least some crews from the south might get some overtime work up here after the storm.
We had a family vote on whether or not to bring the chickens inside at breakfast; I lost. I am torn about it because I do think the coop is very sturdy, but there is only one small roosting space for them that isn't open to ventilation. The pecking order is still being re-established now that my Welsummer is getting bigger and I'm afraid the three big girls might bully her and the bantams. Maybe I'll just bring the three babies inside and put them in the dog's crate. Oh this should prove interesting.
I am looking forward to lighting a bunch of big fires, roasting smores and baking my head off. I do hope the girls get to have Halloween though, considering they got snowed on last year. Suzanne has my cell phone number so if anyone is in Westchester and needs to find refuge, PM me or her and get my number that way. I think Christine has my number too.
I hope all you crafty folks have a big pile of yarn to keep yourselves going through the storm! I will trade apple pie for handiwork next week.
Take care everyone, hugs to all!!
Heather
