Thanks for checking up on us, Chickielady.
And since tomorrow is the full moon...

Al, good to hear you're OK.

Thanks for the tip on hand Warner's, I bout a case of them for my husband because he does demolition work and never thought of using them on chicks. I will keep some of them home now. I just got a notice from Verizon about how my battery backup will work formy phone for eight hours but my tv and web will be down, but to keep up to date with the storm using their web page throughout the storm. Uhmmm how do I get on the web page if my web is out? Duh.

City schools are closed...you guys are so sweet, it's nice to see such wonderful caring people. I'm "upstate." To most of you, but willing to lend a hand to help anyone as well.

Stay safe.

My email is [email protected]
Bringing in all my girls at dusk. Fun.
Chicks should be fine if we lose power, they have momma,
and are in my bedroom. Big girls are being kept in the living
room. I also got the lipa phone call, and one from the town
saying if I'm in the evacuation zone to go to the shelter. We are
south of montauk hwy but not in the mandatory evac area.
I'm not leaving my chickens.
Stay safe all. HUGS

So happy you posted this, as I have been trying to locate a soy free feed to feed my pullets once they switch to POL. SO HAPPY I looked it up as I have been trying to get together a group to off set costs to order Countryside Organics, because it is soy free! Now I can try this!

THank you!

MB

I didn't even realize it was soy free. YAY!! And my Agway guy told me the Agway Hearty Hen is the same price as the regular layer pellets. And the bag is so purty...

I got the call from LIPA yesterday afternoon, too.
"We are working hard... MY BUTT.... to let you know you will be out of power just until everything in the freezer is junk, or you need an ambulance because of the panic attack you are about to have...."
Let's hope it doesn't snow so bad that the roads are clear. Even though my fire dept has the WORST response time on Long Island. sigh.

Phone numbers. EVERYTHING posted here is public information, so unless you need a few more wierdo friends that call in the niddle of the night...
Not so sure about PMs either.

My email is [email protected], we can start some kind of emergency network there, I have a generator, but, Optimum cable has a nasty reputation, too.
So who knows.... T-Mobile/ ATT towers also are not so reliable.

I have a few of you guys in my phone, if it gets bad, let's give it a shot.

I don't think this was brought up for anyone with chicks... Those pocket handwarmers work like a charm.
I use them whenever a chick needs to travel. Maybe the stores will have those left.....
Stay sane.

Great idea about the handwarmers! I forgot about those. I have a whole bunch downstairs. I'm sure the stores will have them. Home Depot, maybe, if you can stand the lines. I'd try your local hardware store. Shorter lines, I'm sure.

I have a few of you in my phone. If things get nasty, I'll check in.

Here's the news from Coope Diem. Everything is battened, flimsy sports car has been safely stowed in Bobby's Commack garage, chicken coop cleaned and water bottles filled.

As we were leaving to take the Corvette to the garage, Laura called to tell me she had been in a car accident. A girl turned left into her front driver's side. No airbag trigger. Laura called the HMFD, who were still at the firehouse from the Sunday morning stuff. She told me she was okay and not to come down. Yeah right. Like I hear fire engines and sirens and police cars going to my kid's accident and I'm going to stay home. When I got there, there were 2 HMFD trucks and an ambulance. They had her on oxygen and were strapping her to a back board. We rode in the ambulance to the hospital, where she was checked out and pronounced okay. Her LT and another FF were there the whole time and then her Captain came by. Her boyfriend's mom came down and then, when he finally got the 42 text messages, her boyfriend left work (big OT) and showed up with flowers just in time to drive us home. (I had sent Bobby home with my car.)

All in all, it was just a lot of excitement. She's gonna be hurting tomorrow - whiplash injuries and a bruised knee - but she has Motrin and Flexeril and a day off due to the hurricane. The car is another story. I just took the collision off literally 3 days ago. But the guy whose shop who has it is an HMFD member and the other driver was totally at fault (and admitted it) so it will all work out.

Her ER nurse was another HMFD member, and Laura knew the ambulance crew. They treated me with kid gloves and you could see how much they care about my daughter. Her LT was awesome. Everyone's been calling and texting her to make sure she's okay. Does my heart good.

So we're all set for the hurricane. I have craploads of yarn to work with and plenty of candles and batteries. We have a generator, so we're good to go. I'm not nervous (I tend to be skeptical about these things) but we did prepare.

My email is [email protected] if anyone needs to get in touch. And Roberta, Heather, Donna, Rosie and I think Carol all have my cellphone number. If anyone needs anything, even just to vent/cry/laugh/whatever, don't hesitate to call.

And if anyone has anything they want crocheted, let me know. I plan to do nothing else. I'm still laughing over Rosie's quote: "I'll be crocheting and you'll be leaving me alone."

And finally, I'll share what I heard at a meeting this morning: "If you face the sunlight, the shadows will always be behind you."

Stay safe, everyone.
