OMG...so true. I was born in '51. Played on the streets of Manhattan with the boys. I was a classic tomboy but also did some girly things like ballet. I always felt lucky in that I could do boy things s well as girl things. I am a gold medalist in the Empire State Games, in archery, have hunted and brought venison home, gutted it, skinned, and butchered as well as cooked it, shoot guns, I have a wonder DH who relishes in all the things I do. As you said, we were able to do it all. Raised 5 sons and grandmi to 7. I've had a great life., Have traveled all over skiing and scuba diving. Love computers and never want to ever stop learning or experiencing something new. And.....here we are! Raising Chickens! WHOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!!Not sure why, but every day I marvel at the lovely eggs our hens give us. Lindsey and I sometimes even squeal with delight when a new bird starts laying for the first time. We have the loveliest array of colors, sizes and shapes. It feels like Easter morning every time we collect eggs.
A lot of us here were born in the fifties and grew up on the tail end of the feminist movement when society was changing for the better. I wonder if that cultural change influenced us to be strong women and choose to "color outside the lines". Remember how we went from Donna Reed to Mary Tyler Moore as role models? I remember always thinking that I could do anything the boys could do, and usually better...even though girls weren't supposed to "out do" the boys. It is very interesting how chickens have brought us all together here. Seems that we are a like minded group in many ways.
we're. You able to get chicks for Easter for your children?I'm an expectant chickee mother and currently just check into BYC when I get the email notifications but I've got to say, these last few posts have just solidified my interest in this group.
You guys are awesome!

I was born in the '70's - ok the early 70's - and I want to tell you how much I appreciate everything done by the generations before me. I was lucky enough to grow up in the "Free to Be You and Me" era, when Wonder Woman, The Bionic Woman and Charlie's Angels were on tv (and I was too young to understand jiggle tv). I really did grow up thinking I could become anything I wanted to, and I am doing my best to pass that on to my daughters. We have been to Disney World twice now, and both times the first thing I take everyone to is the Hall of Presidents. This time I said, 'Before you are grandmothers, there will be a female president.' My youngest daughter said, "Yes mommy, my sister Jane!" So proud! I really do believe there will be a female president before I am gone, whether it is my child or not. I sort of hope it isn't my daughter and that it happens sooner than that. I take great pride in voting in every single election I can, and make a point of telling them that women were the last group to be granted the right to vote. I don't intend to be the generation that lets equality go.Not sure why, but every day I marvel at the lovely eggs our hens give us. Lindsey and I sometimes even squeal with delight when a new bird starts laying for the first time. We have the loveliest array of colors, sizes and shapes. Janey loves holding them against her cheek and rubbing them and I have to agree: there is nothing nicer than a warm egg on a chilly morning!Hey Carolina......I just got mine in November. This place is awesome. Have learned a lot from the huge amount of books I have purchased but there is nothing better than the voice of experience and you can find that here.![]()
My girls just started laying on Sunday and there is nothing better than holding a warm egg in the palm of your hand.![]()
