Roberta, You're still sick, and you went to work? A real trooper.

You guessed it, the siding is vinyl. Breaks like Turkish Taffy. It's got holes in it from the tree hitting it but it does not have to be relplaced immediately. It cracked in small holes the size of a dime but that was mostly at the laps where it is doubled over, so no biggie. The decorative shutters can wait too.

I started taking the arthritis med yesterday. It is actually chemo, and it lowers your immune system. Just what I need this time of year. So far no adverse affects from the drug but it takes a while to affect the arthritis. I'm staying home the rest of the week because of the double vision still being there, although it seems better. Plus I have more doctor visits and I tried to make the MRI appointment and their computers are down. I called the vet to check on Jack and their answering service picked up. No power or phones at the vet, and they are only taking emergencies. We will take a swing by there to see how Jack is today.

All in all I guess we ad done of the lucky ones to have gotten power back last night. Those that didn't and don't have a generator must be freezing. Keeping some poultry in the house is a good idea to discourage relatives. Even if they drop by unexpectedly, a poop from a peahen can clear the room In a hurry.

Have to give that idea some thought.

Thanks, Al. No, not a trooper. Just work for a multi million dollar company, that doesn't have the manpower for me to call in sick.
I just feel sorry for the poor schmucks that have to pick up the slack.
So, I go in. Yay.
I put the peahen in the basement. Had her out the past week, but she was not happy, losing weight.
I figured before she drops dead of stress.... another one in the house!

Just checking in. I don't have time to read all the latest posts, will do later. Well after 50 hrs with out power it finally came back on 30 min ago. I can't believe the tree damage in our area. We got 24 inches of snow, in Oct. That is crazy huh. My elevation is 1100 feet above sea level so we always get almost twice as much snow as the surrounding areas. We lost a pear tree, 2 redbuds and split my favorite red maple in two. Our apples did well. Also had some tree ( variety unknown ) fall on the wifes car. No damage thankfully. I will check back later hope everyone fared well.

Rich, I'm glad to hear you are alright. Thanks for checking in. I think we all got through this pretty well, considering the magnitude of this storm. 50 hours without power is tough. It'll take some time before everything is back to normal.

We just came back from being down in the Bronx, and there were trees down from there all up through Westchester. I found another tree split on the side of our property that needs to get cut out. We called the insurance company for the tree that hit the house and they said they will get back to us. It may take a while because of all the claims being called in. That, I can understand.

Wow. You guys really got hit hard! I'm grateful for the small flooding and leaves that came down.

Long day today. Made some headway with the kids - they're starting to get the idea that they have to toe the line. Shared the chicken story with them at the end of the day. They loved it. I told them we'd have more fun when they figured out how they need to behave. But Halloween is tough - they were very pumped up. Little by little I'm starting to clear away a lot of clutter in the classroom and I'm putting some of my own things in.

Bobby's aunt passed away today, so we have another wake tomorrow night.

And getting home at 9:30pm then having to get on my hands and knees to put the chicks in the coop does NOT make me happy!

Al and Roberta, please take care of yourselves!

Suzanne, please send my condolences and sympathies to Bobby and his family.

Sounds like you are making progress with the students. A good sign if you can get anywhere with them on Halloween. Hoping each day brings another success, with them, and for them.

We're really the lucky ones. I spoke with a friend of mine who just got his power back and one friend in CT who will be still out for a week. Coming so soon after Irene, this storm has taken the heart out of a lot of people. Facing a long winter is not going to help anyone.

I am going to start thinking, Spring. Maybe enough positive thought might bring an early one.

Okay, listen up you guys. Did you get me sick?

I woke up this morning feeling really dizzy. (Go ahead, there must be some jokes coming...) A little stuffy too. I suffer from occasional bouts of vertigo, which are debilitating, so I'm hoping it's not that. Can't take time off now, and have too much to take care of.

I'm hoping it's just a sinus thing, or possibly dehydration. Big glass of water, some nasal spray, a little echinacea and fingers crossed it will pass.

Gee, think it might be stress??

Have a great day everyone!

And I hope everyone else (Al, Roberta, Jack) is feeling better.
