Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I spent 2 hours in a "Professional Development" meeting this afternoon (contractual requirement) that was all about teacher evaluations.

This is the second meeting I've been to in the past 2 weeks that has left me with the VERY strong feeling that it's time to leave Public Education. Too much Public, not enough Education.

I'm considering starting my own business providing education services to make up for what public schools are no longer offering - basic learning, character education and individual attention. In addition, I'd like to create a workshop for parents to teach them to be more proactive partners in their children's learning. I'm passionate and focused about what I want to do, but scared you-know-what of the idea of being self-employed. I like a steady paycheck too much!

I'm loaded with tutoring clients, and about to take on 3 more. I may have to quit my job just to be able to fit everyone in.

I'm too old for this...

Suzanne, I'm not a teacher but I do have a few friends who are. They feel very similar to the way you feel. I find if your child is mainstream they will fare well in public schools. If they are special ed or in need of more advanced classes they tend to be lost in the shuffle. And NY and their GD regents exams is a total joke. All teaching is focused on these tests. I believe NY is the only state in the union that has regents.

Chicken dude, I would love to have a buff orp roo, let me know if your sexing doesn't work out! Not sure I could take one but man would I love to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad everyone likes the tees. I will be adding more and more. I've got an idea list a mile long!
