6 look good, one clear i took out, and one weird looking i left in for a few but i know its no good




you cant see much, but some veins at the top near the air cell, and a bigger blob of
baby chick down lower. Day 11 i think

I should take a pic of the ameracauna next time, some are easier to see
6 out of 7 of those are developing. For now.

Over dinner last night, Bobby suggested we get a white crested Polish. No really. I think he's hooked.

Lavinia is doing so well! Eating and drinking regularly, up and walking around in her part of the brooder, peeping away. I credit the cuddle factor. After she spent some time snuggled with the Mama Hen (that would be me) she rallied. I know she's not out of the woods, but it's so great to see her acting like a normal chick!

Karen, my WO and LS eggs are in a Hovabator - styrofoam special. I have the same issue with the humidity. I took all the water out last night but couldn't get the humidity down below 40%. This morning, though, with no water and plugs out, the humidity is 35%. Maybe because it stopped raining? Just watch the temp though. With the water out, the temp went up a couple of degrees, so I had to dial it back. Trying to keep it around 99. And I seriously want the degree symbol put back on the keyboard.

We're going to put the cosmetic touches on the coop today - window boxes, picket fence, etc. Pictures later. The back wall isn't finished yet, but it's up against the fence, so you can't see it. That part we're doing in vinyl siding - it gets no sun but plenty of rain, so I wanted something easy to clean and more durable than the cedar planks. Looks great! Can't wait for you all to see it.

Welcome to the thread! Near the Nevele - Ellenville, right? My family had a cabin in Callicoon when I was little. Love that area!

We're not always this outrageous. Sometimes we just get into these crazy discussions. I'm sure you've checked out the coops page. I started a page for the coop my boyfriend is building in our backyard. We're almost finished - I haven't updated the pictures in a while. I got lots of great ideas from the coop designs here on BYC - just tweaked them to my own preference. Like I use plastic "underbed" containers under the roosting bar to catch the poop. Real easy to just dump them into the composter.

What breeds are you considering?

Give him a second to catch his breath . He doesn't want to talk about breeds he's checking out the photo.LOL

Chick jewelry .I love it.

Here's a picture of my little baby in her "chick bra". "Chick Sling"? She seems to like it. She got very perky, then fell asleep. Now she's pecking at it and me.

You realize that if she turns out to be "he" (and survives), one of you is going to have to take him. I would only give him away to one of my BYC friends!

Welcome Maxx; My husband lived in Bullville (yes Bullville) and his dad work in Elenville for Swift and Co. Probably not even there and longer. I went to OCCC. This thread is great fun and yes very addicting...I'm sure you'll find chicks to fill that coop.

SMK... Just don't let your baby sleep in bed with you.... Some pediatricians frown on that...

Why do I get the feeling this is like a drug I just caught on to?

Is someone going to offer me my first chick for free? Just to get me hooked?

Ha, ha, it seems that way! I talked to a woman that runs a petting zoo for hire at parties and carnivals, and she said she started with chickens too... and ended up with ponys, pigs, sheep, rabbits. I said, So chickens are like a gateway drug? She thought that was pretty funny. Just a warning, you start with chickens and end up with all sorts of stuff.
