Spraddled legs...

So glad to hear it! :ya One of our gals had a splay-legger (you're def not the only one!) that she had to treat for several days, but she got it all fixed up. I'll tag her. She might have some further wisdom for the one you're still treating. I'll tag her: @KDOGG331
Thanks for the tag Cindy! Haven’t read the whole thread but I tried the cup thing with mine and it seemed to help a little bit but what really helped was putting the grippy stuff in the brooder. I couldn’t even tell which chick he was after a day or two.

You know, I never even thought about that. With my ducks & geese, who seem really prone to splayed legs, I ended up taking out the puppy pads I use for the chicken chicks and just putting them right on the pine shavings. I guess those big flat feet don't do well on puppy pads. I actually had to tape ALL the goslings. They straightened right up, but wow!

Oh wow! That sounds annoying! I originally had paper towels in mine but I think even the paper towels were too slippery. They shaped right up with the grippy stuff

@CindyinSD another quail which was the one who got better drowned in the waterer... The waterer is made for quails and it barely is big enough for thier beaks... Overall i got 3 remaining chicks and 2 colored and one yellow chick... The cute yellow chickie has really bad spraddled legs its more than 6 days and its impossible for it to fix.. She didnt settle at first days of spraddle legs when i put bandages on her.. So i just couldn't solve her problem.. 😢 Ive checked all the baby quail's wings and in total the 2 colored ones are female while the yellow splayed legged one is a male... So sad...

I'm so sorry to hear that, Kale. Life is awfully hard sometimes. :( Were you able to find something grippy to put in the brooder like Kdog suggested? That might help, though at this point I'm not sure.

I'm afraid if you can't fix his legs you'l have the very sad job of ending his suffering. :hitIt is, unfortunately, part of hatching. I've had to do it--everyone who hatches enough times eventually has to. It isn't kind or fair to let the chick die a slow, painful death.

The easiest way for both you and the chick is to cut its head off with a pair of scissors. It will bleed. Best do it outside. But talk with your grandpa first and get his advice.

I am so, so sorry for your bad luck. :hugs:hugs:hugs

Please take a breathe and calm down a little bit. @CindyinSD was only trying to help. And nobody was suggesting to hurt the bird just for kicks or anything but sometimes when they are suffering, they ARE hurting just by living and it is kinder to end that suffering. I’m not saying you will have to do that with this chick but sometimes you might. Just like some people have to put their dogs or cats down when they’re sick and hurting. It’s sad but it’s not fair to them to keep them alive just for us IF they are suffering, which it doesn’t seem like your chick is right now. I never ever thought I would kill anything either, my birds are my pets, but I recently got Mareks disease in my flock and had to put two birds down. I didn’t want to but they were suffering and couldn’t walk or get to the food and water. It was sad but they declined very fast and were definitely suffering and it would have been cruel to keep them alive. I hope you never ever have to get to that point with your flock but you may one day. Or if you can’t do it, you may need to have your grandpa or somebody who can do it.

That is a nice thought but it is unrealistic to be able to keep it with you 24/7. But it’s okay if you can’t. :hugs it’s a very hard thought :hugs

Hopefully it won’t even come to that :fl

Have you been able to find any grippy stuff?
