Spring Granny Square Swap

Well I had signed up to host the next swap but if you don't like my color choices you can volunteer to do the one after that and choose some super bright colors for that one. I would definitely be up for that!

I'm pretty sure I have decided to go with a jewel color scheme and I love the idea of choosing the colors and brand of yarn ahead of time so that it's easier for everyone to get their yarn without worries about it matching. I thought it very cool that just as Kim and I were PMing this idea back and forth to each other, Rancher also suggested it! Jewel colors would be sapphire, ruby red, emerald green... not sure exactly what colors would go in the mix. I would need to look at colors and brands to pick them out for sure and some of this will depend on what brand has the best choices.

I'm hoping I can stick to one brand since I'm trying to simplify things for the next go round. I thought I'd give us a little break in between swaps since I know a lot of folks had talked about wanting to work on crochet that was not granny square oriented and I also have a couple of other projects I'd like to get out of the way in between.

I am very close to being done with the current squares. A few more days should do it but then of course I need to tag and bag them. Hope to get them out right on time!

Very cheerful! I love the corner details!

While this is a good idea and I like it, I just want to mention that Michaels, JoAnns and AC Moore have coupons each week. I've taken a liking to Vanna's yarn cuz it's usually 2/$5 at one of these places. I like it too , cuz it's softer than Red Heart but no too soft.

Still I do hope who ever decides chooses a specific brand so all the squares are the same softness. I'm easy so I don't really mind which the chooser chooses.

Forgot to say squares have been mailed and there are a few "Rose" squares for Writer that were not fitting this time around. I think her class will like them.

I've been tucking my tails in this week, still need to finish a few and need to bag & tag them as well. It's an extremely busy time for us with it being DD's Senior year.

We've been running around getting everything in place to be ready for prom this weekend. We went to pick up her beautiful dress from alterations and they took it in too much, so had to leave it over the weekend for them to fix. We went back on Tue and it still wasn't right, but they fixed it. YAY!!! We found some long beautiful elegant gloves to match, picked out some spray roses to go in her hair, had a little make up session at Macy's, and found a small clutch to match. She's a natural hippie nature chick, so I was surprised she let me persuade her to get a little makeup, but it's all very sheer natural looking. Her last day of school is May 9th and graduated on May 19th, so lots & lots to do on my end.

Hubby & I are trying to start up our first lil business, so many days and night have been spent there building things out, painting cleaning, filling out applications, typing up proposals to present, typing of amendment notices to mail to other property owners in the area etc...

Sunny I can't wait to see what you come up with for the next swap. I will try to dig up my other swaps from the basement and take a pic to share. I might not add in the last fall swaps to the hodgepodge afghan, but do one all in those colors since it would match my living room. I do love your idea of keeping on all the tags as a memory until they fall off.

Well gotta run b/c I forgot to feed the bees. Always something to feed around here, but I think I cover everyone else today. Heading to the shop to help hubby.

Happy Friday everyone!!!!

I didn't know you had bees! How cool!!!

I like Vanna's yarn too. I also like the Caron soft but I kind of like the softer yarns. It will be between those two. Thanks for the thumbs up.

Sunny~

Yes, we got our first hive last spring, but it failed in Dec. It was very sad, but we are trying again. A fellow beekeeper member attracted some in his hive trap box and we bought them from him. We just got the new ones almost 2 weeks ago. They are still in the hive trap box and seem very active. We'll need to transfer them to our hive. That should be very interesting!!! Last yr when we bought the 5 frame nuc we just took our equipment to bee breeder and he loaded the frames directly into our hive so we didn't need to do an actual transfer of frames w/ bees on them. Another beekeeper friend let us borrow his hive trap box and DH discovered we have attracted some, so we may have 2 hives up and running very soon. It's very exciting!!!!

I would love to have bees!!! DH is not on board with it though. He is afraid of bees and he is so supportive of my many projects I have to respect his feelings on this one. Maybe someday he'll change his mind. We'll see.

Betty I didn't hear from you on waiting til Monday but I didn't make it to the PO today so I guess they will have to go out on Monday. Hope that is OK.

That makes sense with all the beautiful wild flowers in your area.

Where's Betty been? I hope everything is alright. Tonight I plan to get a couple more squares done to add to my uneven number. Maybe I'll get 2 full complete sets done after all. Betty did say there were folks that hadn't gotten back to her so maybe I'll have enough.

We're getting down to it, friends. I wonder how many squares we'll be getting. I'd love to be able to join Betty in looking at all the pretty squares and taking pictures.I'm making additional squares to match a rug and the swap squares will probably be the decorative bit. I plan to make this afghan before I start another project.

I do hope I can send some to the next swap, too. I have to look through my stash. I'm pretty sure I have something by Caron but I don't remember the color, and the red I have is not emerald. There is a Joann's near here but their yarn section is small. As I said before, I'd try to get one skein at a time and make solid colors. Maybe I'll face my fear and try a new pattern. I look forward to the pictures of the choices. Maybe a vote could be gotten from those on the thread instead of the entire BYC.

Actually, here's the oddest combination I could come up with, with respect to my former barred rocks.Center row would be pink to light brown to match the eggshell. Second color would be white to match the white, third round would be orange-yellow to match the yolks. Fourth round would be alternating black and white to match the feathers. Fifth row would be coral red to match their combs. I decided I couldn't live with such a thing. On the other hand making one might help me get over my chicken deprivation.

Hahahahaha! That would be a very interesting, um, project. I am trying to picture it completely. Go ahead and make it it might be something you could look at once in awhile just to remind you of your old flock anyway. I do plan to put up a poll for the next swap to decide the final colors etc. The problem with opening it up to just this swap is usually most of the folks that participate in one swap won't participate in the next one and I want to open it up to any new folks that want to join the next one. I will ask that only folks interested in joing the swap vote though to make it fair.

LOL, I can just imagine what folks that have no interest in crochet might come up with color wise. I will be limiting the selections to just a few choices though.

That's a good point about the vote. I'm sure you'll come up with something sensible and inclusive.

Oh, Sunny, no. Like you, I can't get my head around the barred rock color scheme and, when I try to, I get a queasy feeling in my hara. I'll remember those beloved chickens and have pictures for reminiscing.

If it were other colors, though, the plan could be nice. ie, the fourth round of every other square would match the second round. I might try that some day,
