Starlight’s Training Adventure!

Your not stepping on my toes at all! I love getting new ideas of things to work on and do with star! I really want her to be a well mannered and well rounded horse! And I completely agree with the idea of working on things from the ground. What I want to do is get star ready for being ridden, so if she has already done the stuff from the ground that I am asking her to do while I am riding then things will probably go much more smoothly.

That sounds like a great plan! If I got my own horse I'd certainly want to do the same. :DSounds like Star is gonna be one great horse!

One of Vinny's, who I work with the trail stuff with, problems is he just won't stop backing up or moving around when I try to position his butt so I can open the gate. Even though I'm not even leasing him I want to see if I can't work on that with him when I practice it...Tee hee.

Thanks! I know what you mean! How can you not want to help a horse improve, even if it is not your horse! Lol :D

Yup! Really, it's amazing how smart horses are! I only ride once a week, and I don't even ride Vinny every week. (And I'm the only one riding him, really) Yet in the few weeks I've practiced it, he's gotten much better at yielding his hind end. He used to be so stiff and unwilling to turn to the right, but now both sides are much more even. I've noticed that he also won't move his front feet as much, either. Mostly stationary, yay! :D

Bringing the thread back to topic, it sounds like sassysarah gave you some good advice for Star spooking on that hill. I hope you can teach her to walk calmly down it! :fl :)

Thanks! Glad Vinny is improving!! :ya Great job! And yes, I hope Star does well for me tomorrow! I will let you guys know how it goes!

Thanks! That is a great idea! I will definitely try that tomorrow! The first time she bolted down was just her being spooky and rushing down the hill. But I think now star thinks that if she bolts down the hill she gets to eat more grass. Because whenever she bolts she runs down the hill and then just puts her head down and starts eating grass.
And now that you mention getting star to want to walk down the hill it kinda makes me think of how I taught Sugar to load into the trailer. I would walk into the trailer and if she didn’t walk in with me then I would lunge her for a little bit then try again. Eventually sugar realized that if she walked into the trailer she didn’t have to work.
I hope this works for star! :fl Thank you! :)
Of course!
Good luck with her tomorrow!:thumbsup

So I know you guys are waiting for an update but I couldn’t take star on the hill this morning. Nothing to do with her, it just was pouring rain and the hill wasn’t really safe to walk on at all. :barnie So I have to put it off until tomorrow or maybe this evening if the hill is dry enough by then - sorry! :hmm

Oh darn! That's okay though! Looking to hear from u tomorrow!

Oh yeah, so annoying when rain cancels your activities. Remember once we thought we could beat the rain for a riding lesson, but me, my sister, and two other ladies we ride with ended up getting stuck under some stalls in a downpour!

Though it was kind of funny how my one friend was like, 'yay, it stopped raining!' when it did eventually let up, then it began to pour again. :lau

Thankfully the horse's stall we ran for cover in (when the wind began to blow it on us) did not care we were there. :gig
