We got some snow last night but Star was determined to fine some grass on our walk this morning!

Farrier also came this morning and Sugar and Snow were very good! Star... not so much. She really wasn’t so bad she just didn’t like having her hoof held for a long time. Now I know another thing that I need to work in with her.

Could anybody who has worked with yearlings give me a list of what they desensitized their yearling to. I know the more they are desensitized to the better, but a list of thing to start with would be great! She is desensitized to: horse blankets, towels, grooming tools, water/hosed down, and dogs. Starting to work on the scary plastic bag!

I’d add spray bottle to the list, otherwise it sounds like a good start.
I made sure my horse was good with plastic bags all around her since I would apple pick when I went riding lol
Probably the scariest thing for her was those elect-so-and-so signs being battered by wind.

If she need's more training then I suggest you should start yeilding her hindquarters, Lunging her, start riding her when you think she is ready, start on loading her in a horse trailer, ETC.

I definitely will start working on yielding her hindquarters, and loading in the trailer. She does have some experience loading in the trailer but haven't done it all winter. I don't intend on riding her until she is at least 3 years old. I would like to work on lunging with her but don't have a round pen... can you still lunge without one? Thanks for all of the training ideas!

Okay! Yes, you can lunge her out of a round pen. I lunge my horses out of a round pen and they are great!

Yay! I actually have been looking forward to start lunging her! Now just have to wait for the ground to not be mud. Still I can start lunging her at the walk!
