Stolen Horse--Man is BACK in jail!

That was the plan....I was hoping to show him, then I got hurt and had to have knee surgery. I couldn't work so I had to lease him to keep up his manners. This guy seemed "perfect" and had a good temperament with him, so I figured why not. It killed me to see him drive away, but I didn't want Max to develop bad habits while I couldn't ride.

I hope you get your horse back, he's such a pretty boy!

Here in NM you have to have a 'brand inspection' even if your horse isn't branded, in order to be allowed to move the horse. Basically they need proof of ownership, like the bill of sale or registration papers, and will make sure everything matches up then give you a document to carry with you. If you get stopped transporting a horse without hauling papers, you get a pretty hefty fine. It looks like OK doesn't have the same laws though

Could the courts help you if they're getting a divorce? I'd think alerting all the rodeos and ropings in the area will put a stop to him pretty quick, as they won't allow entries on stolen horses! Be careful he doesn't dump the horse or sell it rather than return it and face your wrath though.

Thank God you're not looking for a non-descript sorrel QH! At least people will remember if they've seen yours.

You know, in Oklahoma the owner of the horse is still allowed to HANG a horse thief.

It is completely legal. The only stipulation is that the limb has to be at least 10 inches in diameter, and the noose has to have 18 turns on it. You know, the twists above the actual loop. Mayes county retired sheriff told my friend this yesterday. Oh, and it has to be done by the owner of the horse.

It is a little shocking, but having lived here 10 years, and seeing how attached people are to their working partners, I can see more of a revolt if it was removed. I'm not sure what would happen if someone actually tried it, or when the last time it was done, but I might do some digging and find out. It's not one of those obscure laws...it's common knowledge around here.

I wish it was legal in California. Last August my shoer took my horse, same situation. Contractual, he had a buyer. I had known him for 25 years, never figured somthing like this would happen. Took eight months but I got him back, skin and bones, pretty much ruined, but having friends of friends keep the pressure on him is what helped the most. Mine was a gorgeous loud paint gelding, kinda hard to disguise.

OK, so I had given him one more day to get into contact with me before I took it to the courts. I gave my number to his ex-wife, who called his cousin who can contact him. He lied to her and told her he had tried to call me.

Now I'm going to contact the processors in Tahlequah and take this all the way to the top.

sred, can you call me please?

Why not have the police call this guys Ex-wife and cousin and get his phone # from them? (since they are able to get into contact with him)
I think youd get the horse back quicker that way...court is a long process..
