Growing up we had a bantam hen who would sneak into the house whenever she could ... and lay her egg between my parents' pillows! Somewhere in her piles and piles of photo albums, Mom has a pic of Henny Penny sitting in her own private boudoir. If I ever come across it again, I'll be sure to post it!

Malibu hid her nest in this maybe 5" wide space between the duck pool and the fence. I ended up letting her hatch them there.

It is a pinkish egg. I don't know who laid it. In my flock I have 2 Easter Eggers (one lays green, the other blue), 2 Buff Orpingtons, a Black Australorp, a Welsummer, a Black Star, 3 Barred Rocks and 5 Red Ranger hens (and a rooster, but I'm pretty sure he's not laying it). I know the EE, Welsummer, BR, BO and BA eggs. The RRs seem to lay various shades of brown.

so i have 7 that are in a large run. they have a coop with 3 nesting boxes. last week, i wasn't getting many eggs for a few days (not any from my leghorn which was really REALLY odd).

one night, i heard the dog barking and i went and checked the coop to make sure the girls were all okay. there were no eggs in their main nesting box. but there were NINE in the teeny tiny one they haven't used for the past year. i guess they were all fighting over their favorite big box, one got tired of it and laid in the smaller one, and then they all followed suit.

It's funny how they copy each other, I've seen mine queuing for a spot when the others are free.
I had it the other day, one hen was sat laying in the end nest, another tried to squeeze in to it as well but eventually gave up, then a third came in and stood waiting for that end nest.

I've seen that too. In fact have had 3-4 in the nest at once. But sometimes they just pick some strange spots. LOL
