In your sultan experience, is this a girl or boy? I've been led to believe its a girl so far, but the jury is still out! I hatched her from an egg and she's now 15-16 weeks

LOL, it may be? To keep the horned comb, it's easiest to cross with a polish, however, there really is no such thing as "pure blooded" Chickens conform to type not geneticsOn page 2 of this thread I posted a pic of one of my 2 my "Blue Sultans. I have concluded someone crossed a Sultan with a Polish. I recently saw a Polish chicken and that s mostly what mine looks like except for the feathered legs and fifth toe. I am no longer worthy of subscribing to this thread lol...I will be getting a Real Sultan and a Polish. I like my mixes so much I want one of each breed.
The down will show recessive genes, I forgot what they're called, but usually in sultans it's a little gray colors with the yellow on the backs. My Sultans are from Ideal, they are the bantam size, and if I may critique them harshly, many of them have black feathers popping out here and there or else what I call blue feathers (more like faded spots on otherwise white feathers) Some had only 4 toes on one foot, some had 5th toes that were very connected to the 4th, some were missing their nails and only a few have good feathering on that mid toe, or the one that points forward, others have short little feathers coming out of there, and I believe mid toe feathering is desirable. I have my favorite look for the face, large rounded nostrils and curved beaks, but some of my girls have squished looking nostrils and longer straighter beaks.I just bought three new sultan chicks, and they are all different color chick downs. Is the Sultan based on Blue? One of my chicks is blue. I got them from Ideal.

I'd guess she might have silkie in her. Her skin seems very dark (silkies have black skin) and they also have 5 toes. The comb could have stayed forked or it might be walnut in that case. Not the hardest thing to correct. You might want to try capturing her color since it's already started, or just enjoy your beauties!

Anyway, they are hatchery stock, which usually means that they are simply being hatched out for numbers and not really selected for qualities. But I do hope to see if I can't hatch some prettier birds by selecting a couple of girls to hatch from. I've been taking notes on the girls to narrow down who I would like to hatch from, then I have to figure out how to get only her eggs, LOL
LOL, Charlie just pitter pattered over here, it's so cute how his feet sound like a little child's. Plop plop plop, he's so cute! I know the boys would rather be outside with their ladies, but we keep them indoors on the weekends (with diapers) so they don't bother the neighbors on their day off.
