Summer 2012 Granny "Square" Swap (sign ups closed)

Cute puppies.
Thank you Alethea! I am so crazy about them. Letting the one go was so tough I don't know how I'll do it again. The connection between the first puppy to go and her new owner was amazing though. It was a really touching sight to see. I am so picky about who they go to, it may be a few weeks before I let the other 2 go. We plan to keep 3 of the puppies. The gal with the 1 puppy has reported back to us and she is so thrilled. Apparently she has already trained her to do all kinds of things. Guess it's pretty easy when there's a close bond like that.

Sorry I'm gushing about the puppies. They have a way of consuming one's attention. Those of you that have raised puppies probably understand. I still feel silly for going on and on about them though.

I'm trying out a new beanie pattern (well I'm winging it actually) for Hubby. His ears get cold when he's out tending to the animals in the evening so he wants something that covers his ears but he doesn't like the ear flaps (says they don't stay down and he doesn't want yarn ties or weights hanging down the side of his head). I'm trying to make a beanie with an expanded ear area. The beanie part is done but the ribbing is only a 10th of the way done and I am brainstorming about the best way to do this. I really want the ribbing to come down over the ears too, since that would make the hat nice and warm, but I'm not sure how this will look when it's complete. I'll post pics if it works. I need to get this done so I can get back to the quilt for my GD. I really want to give it to her for christmas but DH wants the hat right away too. I wish I weren't such a slow hooker. haha

What are you all working on right now?

Sunny, your puppies are ADORABLE!!

I'm working on a baby blanket (Shells of Love) for a girl that used to work with us. She has three boys and they decided to have one more and it's going to be a girl! I'm also working on tatting a pair of earrings for my step-daughter for Christmas. If the earrings go well I'll try a bookmark for my step-son's wife.

How cool is that? I've never tried tatting. I'd love to see a pic when you're done. How hard is it to do?

Years ago an elderly church lady who was an avid tatter (w/ the shuttle) tried to teach me. I was truly hopless at it.

Gushing about puppies is quite understandable!!!! lol

I am still working on the borders to the summer swap blanket, and the pieced part of the fall swap. And setting up new garden beds, and researching about raising meat rabbits.

Thank you!

It's not too hard really--it just takes practice. I tat with a shuttle, but you can also tat with a crochet hook. I always have to practice a bit when I get my tatting stuff out, because I don't do it very often. Here is a picture of a practice butterfly. I've ordered some thinner thread for the earrings and hopefully I can start working on them this weekend.

I didn't know you could tat w/ a crochet hook, I may need to look that up, maybe that would be easier then w/ a shuttle

For all of you that have worked in the medical field and had to work holidays....I can relate. Even if I had the holiday off, I was often called in to help. I retired from the hospital in "03 and miss it in a way and don't in others.

I had my first quiet at home day. Spent it cleaning out the linen closet since I had a lot of wash that would go back in there so thought it was a good start on my house cleaning. The next room is the guest room so I can get my sewing machine back in there and get back to quilting. I'm making a crocheted blanket for a future great grandchild. It's mostly white but will have green and yellow in the blocks around the center of it.

I don't have time for anymore swaps since I'm playing catch up on housework and gardening but the idea of a snowflake or ornament swap would be good for the middle of summer when we want to think cool thoughts .

Betty-You'll be missed in swapland. Will you drop by from time to time until snowflakes?
