Summer 2012 Granny "Square" Swap (sign ups closed)

Good morning all! We got some very much need rain last night so the air is clean of smoke this morning and simply gorgeous!

I am feeling a lot better today. I think this ear infection is finally about gone. I will be picking up some lavender orps today from a breeder I've dealt with before and I love her birds so I am very excited. Hope you all have a great day today!!!

I can't wait to see a pic of them. We had a great day. Dh & I went and had lunch w/ DD today for her B-day. Then tonight Dh & I went to a winery for the premier showing of a new show he helped get off the ground called "Small Town, Big Deal." I had a bout a half a glass of wine and came home and took a nice hot bubble bath and now I'm ready for bed.

Sounds like a great day! Yes I need to get pics. They are beautiful birds. :)
Hi everyone, Wow! what lovely blocks. They might put mine to shame.
LOL!!! I've seen your blocks Betty and if I ever get as good as you it would be a very proud day! Putting your blocks to shame? Not possible. We strive toward being as good as you are... someday.

You sound as busy as ever. Good luck with all those projects.

I'm glad for that, I know what those things are like.

ps. I wish I could reset this font size, cuz I have a hard time reading it at size 12.

Glad you are feeling better today Sunny. I messed up big time tonight. While slicing potatoes to fry I sliced off the tip of my finger. Luckily it didn't take a lot off but I bled like crazy for a bit. I didn't finish the potatoes, my son in law did. I can just barely type without using that finger(ring finger on right hand) but I think I may not be able to crochet for a few days. Darn!!!!!

I'm getting there fast myself. I use Ctrl + a lot more often these days. Just hit Ctrl - to make the page smaller again.

I feel terrible for you! We have so many nerves in the tips of our fingers, it must hurt a lot. :( Of course it happens when you are trying to help the kids, care for a new puppy etc, etc... I hope you heal very quickly and don't worry about the swap. Just take car of that wound!!!

I do have some good news I think. My hubby is going to be the local spokesperson for the Alzheimer's walk at the end of this month! His doctor called and asked him about it and he was nervous because he hadn't told anyone at work about the diagnosis yet but he decided to do it and has told his job about the illness in preparation for his interview for the local paper. Despite his worries, his boss and many folks at his work have been very supportive.

The doctor we have been working with will help him write his speech and help him to stay on track during the speech (when someone with Alzheimers gets nervous it can make the symptoms worse). I will be at his side too (they want someone who has their family's support) and the kids that can make it here will be here too. We know our second oldest will be here with her hubby, and the kids, plus the others are trying to get the time off work as well.

They want to feature someone with early onset so folks can see that this disease can affect us at a fairly young age as well as when we are older. I am very proud of him since he has been fairly secretive about this until the last month or so.

Anyway, not sure why I am telling you all this, except that so many of you showed concern for him when I first spoke of it and he was very touched that folks that had never met him would care about him at all! It really meant a lot to him and, I think, it really lifted his heart and gave him strength to realize he can do this! That folks out there do care about people and this disease!

Thank you all!!!

baustin, so sorry about your finger, my husband cut part of his finger tip off at work several years ago, I know how painful it was for him

Take care and don't let it get infected.

Dawn, that is remarkable going from secret to openly publicly speaking about it in such a short time, good for him. I don't worry about getting many diseases, but that one I do worry about, my Gma had it, and I see signs of it in my father. He won't listen and go get tested though. My Gma was taking care of a sick and demanding spouse during the early times so we missed recognizing the signs until it was to late for effective treatment. (effective being a reletive term here since none will cure it) they are making some great progress in the amaloyd (sp) plaque recognition and early tx. If I could afford it I would do the new PET scan. I have heard about a new treatment trial if I remember correctly they were wanting early onset to participate in the study. Anyway congrats to your husband, he will do great w/ all his support. And to you and your family

Good garden o' peas, Betty be careful and call the doc. You don't want an infection.

Sunny, Lord have mercy. I know at times it can seem like you're alone but I am with you in spirit. My father had it and my MIL had it too. I also know my wifes' aunt her mothers' sister had it too. So it's something we both think about often as we age.

I watch anything in the news on it and am encouraged that advances are being made everyday. The brain is like a muscle and needs to be exercised to keep the synopsis or whatever they are working and also they can grow back. PBS had a program on it and it was very interesting. That's why your DH is encouraged to learn new things and crochet will help. I know my father took college courses in his senior years. I think this may have help delay things.

Tell your DH hey for me.

Sunny hope all goes well with your DH's speech. How supportive you all are. My prayers are with you both. It must make him feel so much better knwing you all will be there. So far the finger is doing well. I am careful not to hit it as that hurts but otherwise it feels all right. The dogs and my puppy know something is wrong and they all congregate around me to make sure I'm fine. Thank you all for your well wishes.

Another sad note. The appraisal came in low on the house and we're not sure how it will affect the sale. The sellers will have to pull the house off the market if they won't lower the price and just let it set until the economy gets better or the lender will go for the loan anyway. There is a $15,000.00 difference and I know the kids can't come up with the extra.

Betty-I'm sorry about your accident. I hope your finger heals well and quickly.

Sunny-Your dh's strength and courage are impressive. He's the kind of person who can really help.
