Summer 2012 Granny "Square" Swap (sign ups closed)

Hey everyone! Hope all is well with you. Man is it getting cold here in Maine! Gonna be in the 30's tonight! Was downright chilly last night too. About 5pm, I asked dh to build a fire outside so I could sit out there and crochet and be warm! So he did and I sat out there and crocheted. I'm not ready to give up any daylight, winter is tooooo long as it is! Squares are coming along slowly but I really need to get crackin' now. Have about 15 done on the 1st set. Have a great night! Gotta get my hook flying!
Cathy
Hi Cathy~ Cold front came through my way. It feels great! Not quiet as cold here as it is for you though. Crocheting by the fire sounds nice. I'm also feeling the heat and need to get crackin' to finish my 2nd set.

I agree those 12 inchers sure do take a lot of time, I think next time I'm doing them first! lol I need to recount and see what I have, I know I'm not done though. I know I have less then 10 to go, but I'm thinking it is closer to 5

I know this isn't our blocks and isn't even crochet, but I just finished and thought I would share, just finished these cushions for my neice's rocking chair. It was sooooo uncomfortable and she has a new born and a 2 yo.

It is really two covers b/c I made permanent covers under this slip cover to protect the foam.

Wow, if you have only bathed and changed your drawers 36 times in 36 years, it makes that even more special! Congrats!!!!!!!!

Well today's our anniversary and you know what that means..................... a bath and clean underwear.

36 years and 36 baths and 36 changes of underwear. Gonna shave and get a haircut too.

Very nice. Do you do slip covers?

The plaid fabric is essentially a slip cover, the case is made so it can be removed and cleaned. There are permanent covers over the cushions to protect the foam.

36 years? Wow! How cool is that? CONGRATS and Happy Anniversary!!!
Which books did you order?
Amazon didn't send me the sale offer so I'm curious which they had offered (plus I could use a few new books anyway)!

#1. 50 More Crocheted Afghan Borders Don't waste your money, this one was not on sale but I bought it anyway cause it was under $10. There is nothing in here that you can't find on the web for free.

#2. Crocheting on the Edge - ribs & bobbles, ruffles, flora... by Nicky Epstein
This one I am gonna have a blast with!!! OK first section I was dissapointed with... then I got into the rest of the book. There is plenty of very cool stuff in this book and it will keep me happy for many many months of crocheting!

#3. 75 Birds, Butterflies & little beasts to knit and crochet by Lesley Stanfield
OK I have to admit I don't knit so some of these patterns will never get used by me but there are plenty of crocheted critters and flowers to keep me very happy making tons of cute stuff for my GDs. OH THE JOY!!! :D

#4. Crochet Bouquet by Suzann Thompson
I haven't had a chance to get into this one cause the books just came today (a day early yippee!!!) but the cover looks very cool. Hope the inside delivers.

#5. The Granny Square Book by Margaret Hubert
Ditto for the above book's comments. Cool cover can't wait to try a few.

#6. Around the Corner Crochet Borders by Edie Eckman
Doesn't look as promising as I'd hoped but there are some cool ideas in this book. Time will tell if I get my money's worth out of it or not.

All together I spent about 75 dollars. I could have done without a couple of these though. Not really worth the cost. Ah well. I'll sell them back for a small return.
Here's a link for any looking for inexpensive pattern books. I received the offer through e-mail from the "ALLFREECROCHET" site.

Very cool! And so much more practical than the dark purple velvet cushions I made for my DD's rocking chair, with handmade lace edging and a tatted butterfly on the back to match. It was beautiful when it was done but... that stuff does not stay great looking for very long with kids around! Lesson learned.
