Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Hi all!
Ohio here and just received some Swedish Flower Hen eggs.
Will be putting them under my broody tonight!
I new to the breed and hope to learn lots before the chicks hatch!

Okay... a little nervous here...

My 21 wk cockerel is limping - not putting weight on left foot.  Caught him briefly and checked foot but didn't see any visible issues.  He was really fighting to get loose and I hope I didn't make things worse by catching him during the day.

I'm concerned because of all the issues I keep hearing everyone having w/the sfh leg problems. 

Any thoughts on what I should do for him?

Isolate to keep him from trying to roost?  Just wait it out and see what happens?  ........?

I had one suddenly start limping, thought he had managed to dislocate his hip. But I stuck him in a very small cage for like 3 weeks, and he has mostly recovered. He has just a slight limp.

At what age can I send you experts a photo and have you tell me what sex you think a chick might be??

5-6 weeks at least, should be enough.

I need to plan a trip to visit my mom, and swing wide on the way home so I can stop by your place. Will you have any SFH chicks or eggs for sale or trade in June???

I hatched these two little Buff Cochin girls from eggs that my friend gave me when I took care of her birds while she went out of town. She has gorgeous Cochins.....but no, I don't breed them, sorry. I can ask her if she will have any available, though.

I will definitely have SFH eggs if you give me Ia few days' notice, and chicks if I have even more notice.

These birds make me laugh and want to tear my hair. They have figured out how to escape from the daypen the group is in, where they will be safe from the adult roosters; one is quite aggressive in his defense of his territory. They come back when I call, go quietly and meekly back in, and they wait until I turn my back and sneak out again. I have set the kids the task of spying on the chickens to figure out how they are getting out. LOL

Their new big coop is 75% completed (I broke down and built it myself when hubby dragged his feet too long) and once it's done, they get to live in the horse pasture where they can roam to their hearts' content.

I would say with a comb that big at 4 weeks, rooster.
