i think the same thing why can't they just ignore the sections they do not like

But we can, too. You can help sick chickens and keep us from blowing the house down at the same time.

Why not just click on the Games section to play?

No, I'm not missing the point at all. I joined a poultry site......not a game site. I don't mind the social side of it to a certain point.....I've made some good friends here. I'm just tired of the younger crew using it for their own personal game site.....and some very pointless games at that. Most of them, there are a few exceptions, seem to have little or no interest at all in chickens, ducks or anything else with feathers. One of them has well over 5000 posts ....probably closer to 6000 by now and last week when I counted only 15 of those posts had anything to do with poultry.

The only thing that i can think of that may work would be to seperate the "social" sections (i.e. games/recipes/family life/random ramblings/where am i,where are you/hobbies/ etc..) from all other chicken related things..(i.e. hatching eggs/breeds genetics/emergencies..etc..).
I'm kinda thinking that it would be a big PIA though....
But who knows..it may work...

The games and such being always at the top of the forum doesnt really bother me at all... its easy enough for me to scroll down the page.
But some of the tweens attitudes on their threads can bother me sometimes... *when you tell them something that they dont want to hear..* .. Its just like at home here...

But meh... I'm sure i get on folks nerves too...

Such is life...

I think that BYC is a great community...and i'd kinda hate to see it split up.. Because i'm not sure how that would affect the forum.
But i DO agree..some things/threads ARE getting out of hand.

Don't worry, we won't be removing or splitting up any parts of the forum related to this discussion.

The question and issue at hand is ONLY related to what happens with "Recent Topics" page / list

The options we are considering:

1) Leaving things as they are
2) Pulling out the "social" stuff from the Recent Topics
3) Creating a second "Recent Topics" that doesn't have the games posts

Anything outside of those general ideas isn't something we are considering, so not really worth arguing.

No chance of an option to "subscribe" to sections on the Recent Topics page/list? If you are coming in unregistered/not logged on, you get it all. I joined the thread late

I really like this idea too.

I have to admit, I'm really starting to feel like the bad guy here. That was not my intention. I never once said I thought the G,J,F section should be taken away, quite the opposite in fact. I don't want to cause any conflict or create an uncomfortable situation between members. I stated that I liked the fact that BYC attracted members of all ages and I maintain that it should stay that way. But this section of the site is for forum feedback and I was exercising my right to give mine. I was simply asking if there was a way to hide the many many games posts that appear in Recent Posts.

I am very sorry if I have made you feel bad. You have a valid request. I was just trying to see both sides of the point, and or the possible outcome. The suggested outcome that Terrie came up with would be fabulous, even if it doable.

I also felt that for the first few pages that this thread was rather lopsided with only one opinion. I must say that it is nice to read a variety of opinions, not just my own. I do hope that everyone reads enough, that they are aware that it was never suggested that the games be removed from the site. The entire discussion has only been about removing the games and jokes from the recent posts.

I would rather have some kids playing here on this site than messing around doing who knows what. I have observed that there are a number of the kids that are learning about chickens, and the care of birds here. Maybe they don't post, as much as they are reading. I know of a lot of people that are reading, and not posting anything. I am also capable of ignoring some of thing that some post. I have had a hard time ignoring some of the adults, but dear lord I am doing my best to avoid some of them. It is a learn process for me.

I have to wonder why it matters how many posts a person has. I don't think it has to be a competition.

So please don't feel bad about making people think. It is very good for humans to think. Myself included.
