This might seem like a dumb question, but.....

When feeling for finger space between the pelvic bones for egg laying capabilities, I am supposed to feel between them horizontally, like figers between their legs only further back correct? I have some culling to do and want to make sure that I am not supposed to be going vertically, like between the pelvic bones and vent?

Thanks in advance,
Shawn

A good laying hen has pelvic bones that are flexible enough for you to put at least 3 fingers between them and a distance between the pelvic bones and keel of at least 4 fingers. That is the 3 fingers from between the legs and up toward the tail, and the 4 fingers across the vent area, opposite of the first position. Good luck!
