Hey everyone I am in Sanger, we have 17 chickens, 8 guinea and 3 ducks my chickens have become and addiction. Every time someone on BYC post pics of their chicken I see a new breed I cant live without, my poor hubby I think you preferred my high heel addiction

My silkies are pets, they are little silkie mixes... to me they are just perfect! I have a white-ish one (GaGa) ... a buff-ish one (Snooki) ... a black and white one (Oreo) ... and one that is kind of white with a grey poof on top (Dilly-Pearl)... they are all very unique and special... LOL..

WOW! I just found this thread. I live in Conroe just north of Houston and south of Huntsville. I have 2 Ameriacauna pullets and 6 Bantams, 2 of which are 2yr. old Japanese Bantams. The hen has laid 10 eggs in the past 14 days. I took them over to a friend's house to put them under her brooding hen (Australorp) because the JB never sits on them, she justs lays them and walks away. We're gonna trade 2 of the bantams when they hatch for 2 of her Australorp chicks. I wanted to have a chick to take to my grandson, Logan, this weekend for Easter. Anyway, I just wanted to have some semi-locals to check with when I start to have problems or have questions. Besides the chickens we have one horse, 4 Persian cats, 4 dogs and one newly acquired Pitbull Rescue. The vets in my area are a Godsend!! They did surgery and neutered this male Pitbull after it showed up to my place in shreds. Puncture bite wounds were all over this poor 2 yr. old beautiful dog. They treated him for heartworms, fleas and gave me antibiotics and pain meds for him at NO COST TO ME. Just for bringing him in.Unbelievable.They will remain in my prayers for a long time. I used to have a vet that would help me like that.......the office ladies used to call me 'Mother Nature' cause I was always bringing in critters that needed help. One time I brought in a momma possum and her 9 babies (that had been shook out of her pouch)......as Billie and I were puttin' the babies back into Mom Possum's pouch, Billie busted out laughing..... & said, 'I've stuffed a turkey, but I've never stuffed a possum'. LOL
Some Vets are worth their weight in gold!!!

I am in Boerne, which is about 30 miles NW
of San Antonio. I keep Jersey Giants,
Wheaten/blue wheaten Ameraucanas.
I am presently hatching some Silkies and
Light Sussex. I also raise standard bronze,
royal palm, and Bourbon Red turkeys.
We have 2 indigo and 2 white peacocks.

Boerne seems to be the place to be for chickens!

I cannot tell you exactly where it is any more sense I am sure it has grown so much over there. I know when we were moving they were just starting to build the college I think. We were on the across from it but way down the other end. We lived in a mobile home community. Loved it there. I am in Decatur Texas, my town is about 30 minutes North of Fort Worth. I have been here for 2 years now and love it.
I am owned by 10 Full size hens, different breeds, 4 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Red Sexed Links, 1 Silver Laced Wyndott and 1 that I cannot think of the breed name for her. She is red like a Rhode island Red but has some black bar markings on her feathers. There is a name for her breed but cannot think. LOL
I also have silkies, silkie bantams, and cochins.
I am also owned by 5 dogs, 1 pony 1 donkey, pigs, and pot belly, and 10 baby chicks.

Hey y'all thanks for the holler back last night. Deanna could those other reds be New Hampshire Reds they have black around the head and tail. I don't know I've been looking around and through catalogs at all of the different types of chickens available. Mindboggling. The peacocks are another type of bird I would like to get into eventually. The white ones are so gorgeous. I'm just wondering if they are aggressive or do they wander off? My chickens wander everywhere on our property but they always come back every so often during the day to drink and dust bathe together. They go into their pen at dusk every night and I lock them down for the night. Silkies and Sultans and Polish are the other chickens that look like such characters. I'm waiting until I build a bigger pen inside of the horse barn. I'm sectioning it off for the winter. When it is secure for them to be out there I will slowly add to my obsession of collecting more. I raised Mallard ducks , Khaki Campbell and Harlequins a few years ago when my other place had a pond. I would take the babies and place them at lakes and fishing ponds around the Brazoria County area. Someone mentioned Light Sussex chickens--is that like the Speckled Sussex? I have a catalog from Murray McMurray Hatcheries it's the only Sussex I see in there. Enough about me and mine.
