R.I.P. Red. We didn't have you long, but you'll be in our hearts forever. I am sorry we couldn't make you well, but I am glad you are no longer suffering. We miss you already.

I am so sorry! I know you did all you could for her. I feared the worst when we didn't hear anything yesterday. She wasn't even my hen, but still made me cry!
My heart hurts a little for anyone who looses a pet.

yup, I do! I live right behind austin airport

Thats not to far from me, im over off of Parmer and Mopac. Would you by chance be interested in taking my silkie mix cockerel off my hands. I got it as a chick and i cant have roosters in my neighborhood. So if you would like it hes all yours!

So sorry she didn't make it!

Those are so cute!!

Question to you chicken keepers who have flocks that don't free range. What do ya'll have covering the top of your run? I'm in the process of building our outside run. I'm trying to decide what to put on the roof. Do I go ahead and put up 1/2" wire or can I use chicken wire for the top? The 1/2" would be more secure, but the chicken wire would be cheaper.

A predator can easily rip through chicken wire even on top - raccoon climb, possums climb, skunks can do a little climbing, even some dogs climb.

We use welded wire fencing for all runs, including tops, and then layer either chicken wire or hardware cloth on top of that along the bottoms of the walls of the runs to keep chicken body parts inside the run.

I wouldd love to, but I as well cant have roosters, im so sorry. Do you have pictures of him? Id love to see him though?

Of course ill attach a picture. I was unsure whether or not it was a male but after posting him up on this forum everyone told me that it is a cockerel for sure.
