Texas

Awwwww! The sound of country life. Babies chirping, hens clucking, all the boys discussing the girls, constantly, loudly. The life. It's better than city, horns, boom boom music, people talking, walking. Enjoy the cock A doodle dooooooooooooooooos
Agreed! I'd much rather have the county life than all that other business ❤️

Day 7 on my shipped eggs, looking good so far. The one on the left was "swimming " tried to get video but got a bit nervous I was going to drop it 🤷

I guess I should probably introduce myself instead of just randomly liking and posting.

I'm in the panhandle, where it's dry and windy but still gets snow. 🤣 We're in cattle country, so most of the predators have already been taken care of, and the birds eat all the flies.

I have a husband, a step-son, a property mate, 4 cats, 2.5 dogs (the property mate has one), 22 ducks, and 140ish chickens.

Pleased to meet ya'll.

Welcome! Howdy! How's it going? Throw your likes and posts in anytime, byc is supposed to be chicken related kinda, but we stray a bit.
140 chickens! Wow!
Dry and windy-22 ducks-how does that work?
Thank you! It's going well, though I should be asleep already 😂
I have cement mixing tubs for the chicken run with water so they can dip their heads all the time, and an old horse trough so they can swim.
I'm eventually going to make an in-ground duck pond that drains into a small enclosed stream for a greenhouse, because duck poop in great fertilizer, and I obviously should turn "high desert" into an oasis.

Welcome! I hope you have a great time! And as @Matejka said, we talk about everything, lol

The massive rains we got last week (7+ inches) flooded my coop. I live on a hill. The roof of run runs off back of coop. Back of coop also caught water from further up the hill. I had about 3 inches of water in coop. So, I ran a 1 inch pvc pipe in front to drain water. Then I dug a trench along back side of coop, got a 10 ft pvc drain pipe with holes in half of it. I laid it in trench, covered it with river rock. My HOPE is that water coming down the hill and off the roof will go into drain and divert around end of coop.
We will see....
Also got a baby egg today. It's about the size of my thumb, or slightly smaller.
Site won't let me upload pictures
where are you that y'all got rain yesterday.
I think that's called a "fart egg" they don't necessarily have a yolk... Apparently sometimes chickens will make eggs with a random bit that ended up in their system.
I can't speak to chickens, but the ducks lay small small eggs like that the first egg of the season. This year I had one completely round and it had a very lobulated yolk. For those of you into lab medicine, it reminded me of a neutrophil nucleus.
